What was the moment you went from "casual viewer" to fanatic:

X-Files: It was just me and my little bro, home alone on a friday night. We were watching "Brisco County Jr.", like ya do. It ended and he went up to get ready for bed, while I sat downstairs and waited for him to come back. X-Files was on next. I'd heard it was supposed to be scary. Should I risk freaking myself out or change the channel. The screen was black. I had the volume turned all the way down but with the black screen, I just had to know what was going on, so I started to turn it up....slowly....slowly....SUDDENLY! two yellow eyes flashed out of the darkness and then, because I'd turned the volume up to an insane level, the theme song BLASTED out of my speakers. Scared me to death....ooooooh, I wanted more!
Pretty much love at first sight for X-Files and me. (probably why our break-up was so bitter...bastard). (episode was Season 1's "Tooms")

BtVS: On the rebound from my bad break-up with X-Files, I went to Boston to visit a fellow ex-x-phile. She told me she had found someone new, someone even better. When I asked who she said "Buffy". I scoffed, the show had a silly title and was obviously for children. She told me to sit down. She put on a tape of "Hush". Yeah, that was that, I had to know more about this show. She managed to borrow a copy of the season 2 Buffy/Angel are videos (pre-dvd land, mind you). I devoured them. It was all there, solid characters, solid stories, jokes that required some brainpower. People I could identify with. And now, I'm sitting here with 7 seasons of DVDs and lots and lots of novels.

Angel: So after watching Buffy reruns all that summer, I decided to see what it's spinoff was like. I watched most of season 2, found it interesting. Then the Pylea story and Lorne. Something about the whole Wizard of Oz, Lost World, thing, it captivated me. plus, all of the characters really came into their own that season, especially the end. And nerdy little Fred. Adorable. I was already a Buffy nut, so it wasn't too big a step to fall for Angel. (and as I get older, I appreciate the adult themes of Angel more)

Firefly: Okay, so I was worshipping at the church o' Joss for a year and this new show comes out. I watch the first few episodes, miss a bunch because FOX refuses to run them at the same time two weeks in a row. Then, I finally get a chance to settle in and catch "Objects in Space". Pure Whedon. Just like "Restless" it feels like I'm watching a poem, watching something that is more than just entertainment. Then they cancelled the show. I have my box set though.

Star Wars: Oh, I was born that way. Really.

Beatles: Sitting down with a turkey sandwich for a second dinner on thanksgiving night, I flipped through. Nothing was on but some "Beatles Anthology". *sigh* a bunch of hippies and drug addicts but I'm too lazy to change the channel. Wait, I know that song! Wait, I know that song! Wait, they are really cool guys! Wait, I LOVE THEM! MUST KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM! *goes to library next day, checks out every CD and book ever written on fab 4*

Hitchhiker's Guide/Douglas Adams: 8th grade I'm writing a paper. It's not going the way I want it to. My mom makes some crack about 42. I look at her confused. She tells me it's the answer. Again with the confused. She says I should read "Hitchhiker's Guide". I say "what, that astronomy book downstairs?" Needless to say, I picked it up and found it it wasn't a textbook but the best book in the entire universe. Read everything I can by DA and rent the TV show and put the TV show on cassette and listen to it every morning on the way to school, lip syncing all the lines until it became part of my brain....and that's where I am today.

Those are my most rabid fandoms. I have more. I'm not sure if LOST is really on my list yet. Or House. I enjoy both shows, but I'm not going to sacrifice any goats for them or anything. The Lord of the Rings films are beautiful peices of art/film - how could you not be nuts for them? Blame the extended editions for that love affair.

Ahahahaha!! Tooms! My hubbie met that guy (through friends) and played drinking games with him in dude's apt!
Wow! You have an incredible memory! And Yay for Beatles fans! I think I have most of their songs memorized from hearing them through my Dad's listening, growing up. :)
