We wanted to watch the season finale of 24 today BUT the stupid VCR clock never got reset afer day light savings time. I suppose that was my fault for not checking but it doesn't matter what matters is that WE DON'T HAVE 24!!! And FX isn't running it tonight because of Memorial day stuff (they usually run it on sunday nights).

ARGH!!!!

So that is it. Buffy and the scooby gang will not be having any new adventures. Anya was chopped in half, Spike vanished in a beam of light (though he is scheduled to appear in Angel next season) and Sunnydale has been destroyed. Principal Wood and Andrew both survived, along with a handful of potentials. Willow used magicks for good and Xander managed to hang on to his other eye. Dawn lived. Giles lived. Faith lived. And though we found out there is another Hellmouth under Cleveland, it seems as though Buffy can pack up her stakes and take a well deserved nap.

This is one of the few shows I have fallen so deeply in love with and that has managed to keep my satisfied to the end. X Files let me down. Dark Angel started strong but lost steam quickly. Star Trek was more of a family affair - but Buffy was mine.

Buffy isn't like any other show for me. There is something about watching it that makes me feel good. Perhaps because even though the title makes it sound like it's about one girl, it's really about many people - her friends her family, everyone. Sure, it had some slow seasons, (last year was pretty dark) but the series never failed to ring true with the mind set of the audience (i.e. me).

And for Buffy to disperse the Slayer strength to every girl in the world - that was the only way to end it. Even now, typing this, I am getting tears in my eyes because it was just a feel good ending.

The thing about this TV show is that each character grows as years go by. They don't try to keep them static and always in high school mode. Even with season 1, we saw characters evolve and learn and become something new.

The more I listened to the musical soundtrack, the more I love it because even though the songs in context are about vampires in love and girls brought back from the dead, listening to them in the context of my own life they mean so much more. Graduating from college, "where do we go from here" is not about the end of an episode of Buffy, but about the end of my college carreer and entering the "real" world. Anya and Xander may sing about the fear of a demon/human wedding, but when I hear that, I think of all the things inside me that scare me away from commitment. Buffy sings about going through the motions of slaying demons, but when that alarm clock goes off every day at 8:30 and I hop up and do the same exact routine every day, I begin to wonder if I'm just going through the motions. "Through the Fire" is still my favorite song, because it's about that moment when you think and feel like you're all alone and no one understands, but in reality, all of your friends and family are there watching out for you. And they will save you in the end, like they always do.

And if you allow yourself to fall in love with this show, every episode feels this way.

And this season brought buffy back in peak form. The Buffy and Spike romance had ended, but Spike still cared for her and I didn't really believe that at first, but the last few episodes proved it to me, and it was that much sadder that he loved her with all his vampire soul, but like Reilly, he could never get that same love in return. I don't think I understood what that meant, until she fell asleep in his arms that one night and just slept there.

I'm going to miss that show very much. Soon I will have every episode memorized but there will always be surprises. Buffy never leaves us. She's for every stage of our lives and I think her attitude, spunk, and life lessons will help me more than I think they will.

It was one of the best shows on television ever. I don't know if it will recieve the recognition it deserves. But it was. And I miss it. And I loved every episode, even the darker ones of season six.

Good bye Buffy, Xander, Willow, Giles, Spike, Anya, Faith, Tara, and even Dawn and the annoying Potentials.

We are all potentials now. We are all slayers.
