[livejournal.com profile] verdatum, [livejournal.com profile] dstntp1lgr1m, and I went to see 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' in 3D on Saturday. It was great to see that movie again, as I don't think I've seen it since it came out on video. But the 3D was unnecessary. I wish they could have just released it as a special halloween event, rather than tacking on this pointless feature. Since the film was not shot with 3D in mind, there's nothing in the movie that takes advantage of the 3D aspect. The best part was the opening before the film that told the audience to put on their glasses. From then on, you were just watching the movie will silly glasses on.

(The movie was still visually amazing, though as [livejournal.com profile] dstntp1lgr1m pointed out, the more you try to examine the beautiful sets and dolls, the more you notice how FILTHY the movie theater screen is. Yuck. Someone needs to tell Lucas that if he's going to push for digital cinema, he might want to invent some sort of screen-windsheild wiper so that his crystal clear digital film isn't projected onto a grease smeared screen. Gross.)

Now, I didn't want them to go in and Lucas-up the NBC. But if they were going to go thru all of this effort to release it in 3D, why not shoot some additional scenes that make it worthwile? Or go in and add a few extra snowflakes so they fall out of the screen - just little stuff to make me feel less like i've been duped into some marketing scheme.

But I guess all of this is really them testing the waters. Lucas has already mentioned wanting to make Star Wars 3D (and we all know he'd have no qualms going in and altering the picture to create 3D moments - suddenly for no reason, Anakin and Obi-Wan play catch??!)

( I heard 'Monster House' was a lot of fun in 3D, but the creators probably knew at the time that this would be an option. I'll be curious to see if they release 'Monster House' in 3D on the DVD. The Disney DVD is obviously a different kind of 3D than the red/green glasses of old. Spy Kids 3 on DVD came with the cardboard red/green glasses but that was a HUGE pain to set up since you had to pretty much mess up your TV's color settings to get it to sorta-kinda work.)

[livejournal.com profile] jimithingy read 'Perfume' and now I think I better read it too before the movie comes out! I just watched the trailer and it got my attention. Though it looks like it's going to be very very icky.

Also, I love the main graphic with the girl and the rose petals. I wish I could get my brain to think like a graphic artists...

Joss commented on a recent post on [livejournal.com profile] whedonesque about the new buffy comics. It's short and sweet, but he's such a tease! I want to know who the writers are!

I'm really excited about these comics. It's one thing to read the random comics or novels that I find at the library - its another to read something written by a person who knows the characters and their stories as well as we do. *squee*
