all of their names are so fun to say
Dec. 7th, 2007 06:28 pmOMG YAY, the 'Golden Compass' movie did not totally suck!
The short version: Of course they had to change stuff, and most of what they changed made sense to help the movie move along faster. There were only a couple complaints I had about things they altered that I thought should have been left the way they were, and a few things that went unmentioned that I would to have liked to have seen on film, but all in all, I am quite pleased.
The longer version: ( SPOILERS!! For the Books and Movie! )
All in all, I think the movie was great. We didn't have a "control group" to tell us if someone who had not read the books would have questions about what they were seeing. But the 4 of us really enjoyed it. I feel like I need to read the books again (come on Santa Yoda!) and refresh my mind and watch it again. And I really hope they make enough at the box office to want to film the rest of the series.
EDIT: Rotten Tomatoes has a 43% for the movie. That seems about right for films I enjoy. Reading the reviewer blurbs is interesting, they talk about lack of "warmth" in the film, but the characters are not especially warm yet in the first book...hm...again, I stress the need for my control group!
