orangerful: (one girl // orangerful)
(yes, I'm posting this on Sunday, deal with it :P)

1. What kind of vehicle (car, truck, motorcycle, bicycle, whatever you have) do you currently drive? Make, model, year, color, personality, name, bumper stickers, rearview mirror/dashboard/rear window ornaments, if any.
My Lil' Orangerful is a Mini Cooper Convertible. She was the first car I ever bought with my own money after I started working full time.

Minis are totally female because of the amount of accessories you can buy for them. There's like a whole section of the dealership that is just silly things, like Mini Towels, Mini Figurines, Mini Flamethrowers. I have my Sunnydale High sticker in the window to confuse people who don't know Buffy. And then my favorite Star Wars characters stuck in the window, which makes it look like I'm part of some polygamous group, but really it's just Han, Leia, and Luke. R2 and Yoda are on the front.

2. What are some of your favorite things about your vehicle?
I totally spoiled myself when I got it and picked a convertible, which is so awesome. When I put the top down, it feels like I'm in a Transformer.

3. What are some things you dislike about your vehicle or would change if you could?
The stupid tree sap that has fallen on my car this past year! UGH! So hard to get off the hood. Plus, being short, she gets hit by a lot of rocks on the road. Wish I could magically fix all her little knicks and dents.

4. What is your fondest memory involving your vehicle?
Driving to Dragon*Con for the first time. It was quite an adventure, could barely fit myself in the car, then I picked up [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly on the way. It was a ton of fun though.

5. What's something you've never done with your vehicle that you'd like to?
Go to a Mini Cooper event. There are a lot of crazy clubs in the area. Though I guess my Star Wars club is probably enough, considering joining any club means spending money LOL. :)

Usually I wait until the end of the next month to post the books I have read but this book...this book needs it's own entry.

I had already had it on hold because BEATLES and then it won the Eisner Award for best non-fiction graphic novel. And let me tell you, it DESERVED IT.

First of all, the story. I'm a HUGE Beatles fan, I know who Brian Epstein was. But this story, which was both well researched but then also elaborated on in ways that the author admits are fiction since he has no way of knowing what the exact conversations were like between Brian and other people. This isn't The Beatles story, this is Brian's story, with the Beatles as a backdrop. It's the story of a young man, trying to find his place in the world. But it's not just as simple as being successful. Brian Epstein was gay and in the 1960s, being gay in the UK was ILLEGAL. So here is a man who is in charge of the band that becomes the symbol of "All You Need is Love" and he feels like he can never be loved. It's heartbreaking.

And then the artwork. Oh my god, it is just beautiful. There is nothing more to say, it is just so gorgeous, so well laid out. The colors are perfect. The imagery...

This book has so much to offer. Even if your knowledge of the Beatles is just a few songs, the basic history, this book is worth looking at to see the social and cultural issues that are the same and that have changed (or have they?). It's a look into that world, a peek behind the curtain of the man behind Beatlemania. Of the naive and innocent man who tried so hard to dive into a business he knew nothing about, and how it pulled him under.

Go get this book now. You can read it in an afternoon. But it will stay with you long after.
