SUPER TIRED SELFIE

Untitled

Want to know why? Because it was the LONGEST DAY EVER!

Tim's 2007 Honda Civic scared us into thinking it was going to die the day before but turned out to just be an problem with the A/C so we woke up early on Friday to go get it from the mechanic.

THEN we went to the bank to get a check for a car loan we were already pre-approved for but for some reason we just sat in the waiting room for 45 minutes. (I did find out my credit score is at 850, so that felt good to see).

THEN we drove to the dealership Tim had been in contact with. The dealer was so proud because they had sold the model we wanted a couple days before but had managed to get a new one on the lot right after that so we could test drive it. Honda Insight, hybrid. Tim liked it but the color was wrong - WHITE! No, thank you. So we said we wanted "Cosmic Blue" and "Crimson Pearl" (red) and they had one in Baltimore. So then we sat around there doing paperwork, making awkward small talk while he waited for the other dealer to call back with the VIN etc. and it was like 3pm before he finally said "Okay, it will be another 2 hours, did you guys want to go and come back when the car is here?" (at that point, we had signed away our money so they felt safe to let us leave).

As luck would have it, my parents live right around the corner so we got Chick Fil A and went over to say hi to my now-retired Dad. He was having a rough time, got some gross rash that he let get out of hand because he didn't want to use leave right before he retired (*sigh*) so he was on lots of medication. But we chatted for a few hours. He is worried about my brother and it shows so there were a few awkward moments where he would flip from being in tears because of something nice my brother said to being in tears because he was worried about him. I think some of it was the medication.

ANYWAY they finally got the car and we finally got to go home with it!

We were out and about from 10am until 7:30pm. LONG DAY!

Anyway, I'm fudging the definition of "selfie" for today because if I did a real selfie you wouldn't be able to see the car!

And Sylvia will get to drive the 2007 Civic tomorrow back up to her Mom's so she will have her own car. (no photo because she vetoed the ones that we took LOL, I think she was facing right in the sun and was all squinty...not that she reads my blog and would ever know but still)

Here's a bonus picture of Tim because why not <3

STILL NEED QUESTIONS AND/OR PHOTO IDEAS FOR JULY! DW // LJ
orangerful: (one girl // orangerful)
[livejournal.com profile] tigtogiba34 reminded me that I still had not posted a picture of the new car! I went out in the heat today (ugh it's still in the 90s here in Maryland!! WHY! WHERE IS FALL?!?!?) and put on a couple stickers and my license plate holder I bought years ago, so now she is geeked out, as she should be:

Put some @thinkgeek additions on the new @subaru_usa - now she feels more like MY Starship #starwars #car

I still need a dashboard buddy though. Tim keeps saying there is no where to put anything on the dashboard which is not true, I will find something and MAKE IT FIT.

I may add a few more stickers later...was thinking about putting Han and Chewie on the other side window. But, you know, Tim might want to put something on there too (HAHAHHAHAHA yeah right).

I also want to get the Star Wars sunshade too. I should be getting a merchandise credit from ThinkGeek soon so I'm thinking that will be what I use it for. Of course, by then it might not be hitting 104 degrees in the sun but who knows! I don't like parking in the shade at work because the trees have acorns and they drop them and I must protect my baby!!!

(yes, I'm posting this on Sunday, deal with it :P)

1. What kind of vehicle (car, truck, motorcycle, bicycle, whatever you have) do you currently drive? Make, model, year, color, personality, name, bumper stickers, rearview mirror/dashboard/rear window ornaments, if any.
My Lil' Orangerful is a Mini Cooper Convertible. She was the first car I ever bought with my own money after I started working full time.

Minis are totally female because of the amount of accessories you can buy for them. There's like a whole section of the dealership that is just silly things, like Mini Towels, Mini Figurines, Mini Flamethrowers. I have my Sunnydale High sticker in the window to confuse people who don't know Buffy. And then my favorite Star Wars characters stuck in the window, which makes it look like I'm part of some polygamous group, but really it's just Han, Leia, and Luke. R2 and Yoda are on the front.

2. What are some of your favorite things about your vehicle?
I totally spoiled myself when I got it and picked a convertible, which is so awesome. When I put the top down, it feels like I'm in a Transformer.

3. What are some things you dislike about your vehicle or would change if you could?
The stupid tree sap that has fallen on my car this past year! UGH! So hard to get off the hood. Plus, being short, she gets hit by a lot of rocks on the road. Wish I could magically fix all her little knicks and dents.

4. What is your fondest memory involving your vehicle?
Driving to Dragon*Con for the first time. It was quite an adventure, could barely fit myself in the car, then I picked up [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly on the way. It was a ton of fun though.

5. What's something you've never done with your vehicle that you'd like to?
Go to a Mini Cooper event. There are a lot of crazy clubs in the area. Though I guess my Star Wars club is probably enough, considering joining any club means spending money LOL. :)

So I set a goal for this month to only eat out twice -- 1 fast food, 1 "real restaurant" and I actually managed to stick to it!!! You have no idea how hard it is to not go out to eat when there is a Five Guys AND Chipotle right across from work. Plus, we all know how hard it is to stay motivated to cook once you get home from work. But I did it! :)

Which is good because I had to replace the battery in my car this month and that cost a pretty penny. I just finished paying off the car last month though, so yay! I split the bill for the battery between two credit cards so that should ease the payoff pain.

Now to work on my workout goals, which mostly consist of playing Dance Central until it's warm enough to go running again! I might try to dance tonight, but I worry about dancing late in the evening because I'm worried about making too much noise for my below stairs neighbors. But technically they will probably be asleep anyway, right? I made a playlist that is 30 minutes long and it gives me a decent work out. I'm so outta shape, I need it!

Light snow outside, apartment is chilly. Gonna start making dinner, if only because I swear the gas oven heats this place up better than the actual heating!!! :P

It's hard to find a cool looking license plate frame.

My goal with lil' ORNGRFL is to have most of my fandoms displayed on her in some way. So I'm trying to find a pretty frame for my new plates that says something about one of my loves.

I've found a handful at CafePress, but most of them look pretty bad. (also, CafePress' search function sucks).

If you google "license plate frames" you get a lot of sketchy looking sites to design your own. But I think creating my own might be the best route. I was thinking maybe "My Other Ride is a Firefly" or something Joss related. Or maybe a Star Wars in-joke, since my other idea is to get a vinyl sticker that says "Sunnydale High School Class of '99" for the back.

Suggestions?

Well, now that I've had a chance to drive my Mini around a bit, let me tell you...OMG SO FUN!

Of course, I'm coming from a pretty old car - a car that vibrated when you hit 40 and moaned and creaked as you neared 50 and made you crank up the radio once you were at 60.

The Mini? Well, it's dangerous. I can get up to 70 and feel like I'm going 20 because the ride is so quiet, so smooth.

And it's fully automatic - lots of little electronics in the key and in the car, such an upgrade from the escort, which had "child safety" locks - which means I had to manually unlock all my doors, even when I was on the inside of the car, before I could open them. The key has a little battery in it, and while it's in the ignition of the car, it re-charges the battery - pretty high tech stuff!

Of course, there's the whole convertible part. True, I'll probably have to wait a couple months to fully try it out, but let me just tell you, it's pretty sweet watching that hood roll back. You have the option of just pulling back the front bit, creating a "sun roof" of sorts. Or you can hold the button down longer and have it all come down.

The only downside is the back seats. Like most convertibles, the back seats are just sort of there for looks. I mean, [livejournal.com profile] zaubervz can probably fit back there, but he's a beanpole of a kid. The fact that you can push the front seats so far back that they are up against the back seats? Yeah, it's a tight squeeze. But one person would probably be comfortable enough stretched out back there.

I'm still trying to figure out where everything is. I'll have to go and take a picture of the dashboard so you can see how ridiculous it is. Everything is in the middle of the car - the window controls, the speedometer, everything. So it's a bit crazy trying to figure out what buttons to press at the moment.

But I love it. I feel so very good about this purchase. ORNGRFL is totally my baby. I'm sending in the paperwork ASAP to get my personalized plates. Then WATCH OUT! hehe

Just a quick post from [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy's parents in NJ! Got lots of fatty loots this holiday - I think if I watched all the dvds I got at once, I'd be in front of the TV for a couple days. FINALLY I own the Red Dwarf series on DVD (well, I-IV) and Superman Returns (mmmm superman...)

We're getting ready to have some lobster! How crazy is that? Crustaceans for Christmas (it still feels like christmas since we're not at home...I can't explain it, it won't be officially over until we're back at the apartment, just the two of us...then comes the post-present depression)

I'll tell you more of our adventures when we return, which should be tomorrow. Probably post pics and such to bore you with, because that's what I do. We're currently debating the Xbox360 situation. On one hand, the sale that was going on at Toys R Us is over...but our Xbox is pretty much worthless, so to upgrade would be a good idea.

Oh, and I don't know when I'm gonna go pick up my Mini. I sent the loan stuff in via the interwebs, and I have no clue how long that will take. I might just go down to the bank on Friday and see if I can get the paperwork faster. Hopefully, the car will be mine before we can get too far in 2007.

lil ORNGRFL has arrived in New York City!!!!!

No idea how long it takes the cars to go thru the "quality control" check and then get shipped down to Maryland. But it seems like everything is right on schedule!
orangerful: (ZOMG! // orangerful)
the Mini dealership in Virginia has my Mini in stock....

*deep breaths*
