Kinda Cool
Sep. 9th, 2005 12:34 amNeil Gaiman posted in his blog about Serenity. Nothing huge, just a mention in the same breath with Mirrormast, but I find it amusing that enough of his readers are Joss fans that he mentioned it. hehe. yay neil! You just keep getting cooler and cooler.
Having my little Browncoat shindig tomorrow, though I'm totally at a loss for the complete guest list. I know
destertale will be there, along with
dstntp1lgr1m. Pretty darn sure about
verdatum and
blu_harvest. No idea about one of my other buddies from work, who said his wife and him would be free...but when I saw him last week he was sick so who knows. Oh, and
maybemanda had sounded like she was up for it at one point, but I haven't heard from her all week, so dunno. Should be crazy haha. I'm excited though.
Saturday
jimithingy's parents will be in town. His mom and I are going to see Othello at the Shakespeare Theater in D.C. Starrign Avery Brooks! I find that amusing since
jimithingy said when he saw it, it was Patrick Stewart! All Star Trek Captains all the time when it comes to Othello. Who's next, Janeway? haha. Oh man, I'm a geek. Anyhoo, after that we're going out for dinner at the french place downtown, so yummy. Gonna be a full day of eating.
I should be getting to bed now, working tomorrow and then playing hostess! Gonna be a busy day! Also have to somehow convince
jimithingy to pick up munchies for me...and Serenity #3 since I'm a big dufus and forgot that it came out today...yesterday...tuesday...I don't even know anymore, I just know I need it!

Date: 2005-09-09 11:39 am (UTC)Bah. Sickness is no excuse.. I'm sick, and I'm driving for 5 hours today to see my beloved. ;) And I'm totally bringing Firefly with me, cause he's only seen part of the first half of "Serenity."
Oooo, have fun at Othello. I haven't seen a play in months.. I'm jealous.

Date: 2005-09-11 05:25 pm (UTC)Brooks was really good though. As was Iago. It's a pretty straightforward performance of the play but fantastic all around.

Date: 2005-09-09 05:10 pm (UTC)Secondly, PATRICK STEWART AS OTHELLO??!!!
Okay, look, somebody may have thought it was a good idea to cast him as Charles Xavier, even though Xavier's not British, because he happened to be the most famous bald actor on the planet. But he's not the most famous black actor on the planet, and come on, there's only one Shakespeare lead WRITTEN for black people, and I don't think the black community will be too happy to find out some old British guy is stealing their roles.
Well, if Denzel can play Keanu's brother in Much Ado About Nothing, I guess Pat Stewart can play Othello. But it's weird.
Now, I'd love to see Avery Brooks as Othello. I'd love to see any Star Trek actor on stage, actually. :-P
Now, in all fairness, I have seen Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson from SG-1) as Hamlet, but I don't really compare that. Not to Captain Sisko!
And speaking of Star Trek captains and Shakespeare, I heard Shatner once hosted a festival, and none of the "real" actors would talk to him!

Date: 2005-09-11 05:27 pm (UTC)Well, Shakespeare in this day and age, anyone can play anyone. And the Patrick Stewart version was reverse - Stewart as a white Othello with an all black cast.
Was that before he was on Stargate or after? cuz I figure they good actors all did theater at some point in their lives!
poor Shatner, he gets no respect. That's okay, he'll just comfort himself by rolling around in all the money the fanboys gave him.
