LIEK OMG HARRY POTTER IN LESS THAN 12 HOURS!!!!!!!!

hehe, I'm so excited. I hope the next few hours go by fast! I'm at the library until 9pm, then I'm going to dash home with [livejournal.com profile] zauber_vz in my car and [livejournal.com profile] blu_harvest on my tail, change into some comfy jeans, then put both of those guys into my car and zoom off to The Senator where hopefully [livejournal.com profile] destertale and [livejournal.com profile] verdatum will be waiting and [livejournal.com profile] dstntpl1grm not too far behind. I MUST remember to grab my camera for I feel photographic hijinks will ensue.

So, I had this little idea, inspired by one of my co-workers who has started her own reviewing blog the Brown Book Loft, to start a blog for reviewing comics. I've been cheating with my sources, asking [livejournal.com profile] vertigozooropa and [livejournal.com profile] blu_harvest for things to read, but what about people out there who don't have these two wonderful gents to give them ideas? How do they find out about 'Y: The Last Man' or 'Transmetropolitan'??? I've googled a few times, trying to find a site with decent reviews that didn't look like it was run by a publisher or distributer and that doesn't sit well with me. I want to make something that can appeal to a new reader, someone like me who sorta stumbled into the whole thing and has now become a little addicted. Also, I'd like it to be something that a media specialist/librarian could look at to find graphic novels for their collection.

Of course, this task is far too much to handle alone. I'm only capable of reading the TPB/collected versions of these comics. But I know many of you make that weekly trek to the comic shop and seem to have your ear to the ground about these sort of things. I want this to be accesible to anyone and everyone.

so, who wants to help? You dont have to be an aficionado, just someone who enjoys reading comics and would be happy to have an intelligent discussion about them on a semi-regular basis.

I'm so excited about GoF.. I have tickets for tomorrow, but briefly considered sneaking off to a midnight show tonight. But what do you know, the Loews in Boston has 10 showings around midnight and all but one of them is sold out! How cool is that? Boston loves Harry Potter, I guess. Oh well, I have to teach at 9:00 tomorrow, so I should probably pass on the un-sold-out show.. Can't wait, though. I've avoided reviews, but it's been impossible to avoid the fact that this one is very well reviewed. It would be so cool if the HP movie series was actually taken seriously in an Oscar-worthy sense.

beckanon (for some reason I like this name)

ps. yes, I concur that the V-man is adorable
