Okay, so I've figured out my schedule - Tues and Thurs nights will be livejournal and icon making nights. Mon, Weds, and probably Fri will be World of Warcraft nights...
Seriously, the last two days are blurs to me. Most of yesterday was spent filling out paperwork at library headquarters. Then I drove to the library and it was my lunch hour. Then I got a tour, and it's a community branch so that didn't take too long. Went thru a few of the things i"ll be doing but nothing specific, more of just reading a list. The specifics will probably happen later this week. I got to work on the desk for 2 hours and of course, got the hardest question I could get, some random sports thing. We ended up calling Enoch Pratt and even they were stumped enough to ask to call me back. Which made me feel good, because if they can't find it right away, it must be hard (they are the state library resource center, they have it ALL).
Today, I ended up flipping thru the procedures manual, some memos, school newsletters, and the 3 year plan for the system. Riveting stuff, let me tell you. hehe. It was good to look at though, so when someone asks I know where to look, even if I don't remember what it said. Had another little chat with the manager, she asked me to tell her about myself and I ended up babbling about really random stuff. Like why I took the job, and somehow I ended up telling her all about DDR. *headdesk* Then when we were done talking, I was bummed cuz I realized I didn't mention my Joss Whedon or Star Wars obsessions. I'm sure when I start to clutter up my desk with action figures though, she'll catch on.
Speaking of, I need to decide what I want to put on my desk. It's so empty now, it's weirding me out. I need to put stuff there so it feels more permanent. They dont' have personal computers there either, just two that we share in the backroom and then we log in and it makes our workspace for us. Which weirds me out. Not that I really have anything to type. Just feel like it would be easier to look busy. Mostly I just sit there thinking "I should be doing something else...shouldn't I? but what? I don't know how to do anything back here yet).
I'm excited though. As far as collection development goes, I'm in charge of the adult graphic novel collection! So I'll get to suggest purchases and things. I have other sections but that's the one I'm most excited about. I'm also in charge of sorting thru donations and putting stuff up on the for sale shelf. Which means, if any buffy or star wars books come thru (like they did today) I get first dibs. bwahahhaha!
All in all, I must say, so far so good. The drive seems to be about 25-30 minutes, depending on how many red lights I hit (and there are a lot on Rt 2). The library is right between two schools - a high school and a school for children with learning disabilities. Tomorrow is the day that the kids with the learning disabilities come over in classes. Means it will be super busy. Plus we close at 5.
Yes, so I'm doing fine and dandy. Though I am a bit tired, my body isn't used to this schedule yet. Plus, I didn't sleep very well sunday night (as
jimithingy can tell you since every time i tossed, he was forced to turn and vice versa. At least he didnt' throttle me at 3am). I am insanely tired now though, so I'm going to read thru my flist then get to bed!

Date: 2006-01-12 03:05 am (UTC)It takes about 25-30 minutes to get there, and it takes me about 30-40 minutes to get myself together in the morning. I woke up at 7:30 today and managed to get myself to the library at 8:45, which is as late as I can be, so I'll probably have to get up a wee bit earlier or pack my lunch before I go to bed. THe road I take to get there has a ton of lights, so that slows me down too. Luckily, we close when we close, no hanging out afterwards, as long as we can get all the people out, we're usually out the door about 5 minutes later.

Date: 2006-01-12 04:57 am (UTC)i wouldn't mind having a couple days a week where i worked early so i could get out early and have an evening free.
so you work every other saturday?
i also wouldn't mind an alternating weekend shift thing. i work tues-sat every week. they're looking into making it so you work every other weekend for us. man that would be nice.
