So, get this - five years ago today, right around this time,
jimithingy and I went on our very first date. Crazy huh?
jimithingy and I first saw each other at a concert at The Point in Bryn Mawr, PA a few months earlier. I say "saw" instead of "met" because we were both far too shy to actually approach the other one. Instead, he played it cool and I talked really, really loudly, thinking that maybe he's hear me say something funny and join our conversation. (
maybemanda was with me at the time, she was my concert buddy). Anyway, we didn't really talk there. Just sort of glanced at each other.
A few days later, I was trying to find an mp3 of one of the songs that was performed at the show. I posted to one of the message boards and someone IMed me. He seemed nice enough, and offered to send me the mp3 via IM. I had dial up at the time (oh the dark ages!) so it took a few hours. So while we were waiting, we ended up chatting. I can't even remember about what. I did mention I was at the concert though, and he said he remembered me:
"oh you were that cute girl!"
...."no, that was my friend, I was the blonde one."
"yes, that was you"
Seriously, how great is that?
Anyway, we talked on IM almost every night for the next few months, even tried to convince him to road trip with us up to Boston for another show. Then I saw that one of the bands he had told me about, Granian, was playing a show at a place in Virginia. So I asked if he wanted to come down and go to the concert with me.
He said yes.
I had to work until 5 that night at the library, so I told him to just meet me there and then he could follow me back to my parents where I could change into my concert clothes.
So there I was, 4pm, shelving books, looking around for this guy who I'd only seen webcam pictures of. Hoping he didn't turn out to be a psychopath haha. Rolling my cart full of books around, I settled in the 700s (how sad is it that I actually remember what section of books I was in?) and started to shelve. When I turned around, I jumped about 10 feet in the air. There he was, leaning on my car, smiling and watching me. We had a bit of a formal greeting, since we'd never really talked in real life. He was wearing his big fluffy fleece (yes, back when it was actually COLD in February...).
At 5pm we went to the concert, had a fantastic time watching the band and each other, came back to my parents house and stayed up the whole night talking. He even brought his guitar down to play for me!
He's been my boyfriend ever since. :)
He treated me like a queen that night, and he still spoils me ever day. He's great to hang out with, but he also lets me have my own space and he doesn't mind if that space is full of star wars toys or buffy dvds. I love him so very much. I can't believe it's been 5 years, it doesn't seem like 5 years. In one way, it feels like I've known him forever, and in another way I feel like we've just met.
I love you, Adrian.
