So, for those of you that haven't had me brag at you via IM or e-mail, I'll just post it here: [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy roxxored our anniversary by giving me 2 Unleashed Battle Packs (Obi/Grievous/Cody/Bodyguard & Troopers) but he also bought me....brace yourself....

A PSP!!!!!!!!

w00t! Yes, once again I have made out like a bandit. He said the PSP was a combination of our 5 year anniversary and the fact that I had survived a month of working full time. He bought me 'Lumines' which I love, it's like Tetris and Dr Mario's love child. I ranted about how much I loved it over the summer when I played [livejournal.com profile] zaubervz's PSP on the way to Maine. He also bought me 'Mercury' which is sort of hard to explain. The sort version: there's a glob of "mercury" and you have to tilt the board it's on to make it roll the way you want, split in to and press buttons etc. Its actually quite difficult!

Thursday night we ordered Peking Duck from the chinese place across the street, that's one of [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy's favorite foods, and it's very very yummy. Then last night we drove to Tako, a fantastic sushi place in Bethesda.

In other news: I've somehow survived to the last round of [livejournal.com profile] whedon_lims. I don't know how that happened, but now I have tremendous pressure to think of a cool scene to pick for the last challenge. Has to be an "emotional" scene. So many to choose from - do I go with angst? happy? And it's anything from the Whedon-verse...ooooh, who shall I choose!!!

Today the weather was very doom and gloom here in Maryland. Rain, fog, thunder, lightning, very very frightning...we were supposed to go out with [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy's parents, but his dad got sick so they didn't come down. So I called [livejournal.com profile] simontrueheart and Perri, but then [livejournal.com profile] simontrueheart got sick today. So we just ended up chillin'. And that was nice.

[livejournal.com profile] blu_harvest did a pop-in to drop off some random graphic novels for me to read - one called 'Nick Fury' and another called 'Alias' (no relation to the TV series). I let him borrow 2 buffy/angel books so we could discuss some of the issues/ideas brought up in the essays. I actually still have his Wonder Woman gn "A league of one" which I need to read.

I read book 2 of 'Fables' today. Still don't really get the appeal of that series. I thought maybe book 1 was just clunky, which is why I ordered book 2. But no, it was the same pacing etc. And I really didn't enjoy the end of the second one. I mean, capital punishment? And Snow White just annoys the crap outta me. She has a pole up her butt and I was hoping it was gone after the first book, but no, it was still there and she was still annoying as hell. And Rose Red was also annoying for the exact opposite reason. Not going to bother with book 2.

oh, and Inara is a level 50 rogue now!!!! She's cute AND deadly. And now, whenever there is lag on WoW, I just fire up the PSP and play Lumines! I am a multitasking FOOL!

I'm very interested in reading Fables. I have the first bunch of issues, and I enjoyed them. I think I stopped reading them because I couldn't afford them, and by the time I could, I'd decided to buy TPB's....

I got a few of the later issues, and I've read the one which reveals who the Adversary is, and I could tell you if you want, if you care....

Maybe it was a matter of when it came out, and what was available. It was great for its time, but you're like me, having read so many really good titles recently, so maybe Fables doesn't really stack up.

I have a pile of TPB's out of the library right now, and none of them impress me. They're all superhero titles, and I don't really like those too much.

Yeah, 'Fables' was reccomended to me by a lot of people so I figured I'd give it a try, perhaps after all the hype I was just underwhelmed. I also don't feel for any of the characters yet. I immediately loved Yorick and Spider amused me from page 1. But the people of Fable Town are just not my kind of characters. I mean, Snow White got shot in the head in book 2 and I really had no reaction. Seems like I should have at least been concerned.

I'm really picky about my Superhero titles too. Someone needs to reccomend a run to make me pick up anything superhero related. The only real superhero ones I've read are Frank Miller's 'Dark Knight Returns' and Brian K Vaughan's run of Ultimate X-men (and I just noticed in my library account that his Mystique comic is on the way to me!) I really got into this whole thing because I wanted to see what else was out there besides superheroes and manga. And, thaks to you and [livejournal.com profile] whitemartyr and [livejournal.com profile] blu_harvest's reccomendations, I've found quite a few.

But keep telling me more!
