loooooong morning
Apr. 11th, 2006 11:15 amI'm in my LATI training now...we've got a 15 minute break going. Lordy lordy, this has been so insanely long. The first half was spent discussing "millenials" - which it turns out means ME! People born 1978-2000 and have grown up with technology and are comfortable using it. Anyway, I felt like I was invisible as the speaker kept talking about these "millenials" like they were some alien beasts! HELLO I'M IN THE ROOM! Ugh.
Then after that we started talking about databases and I've already taken courses thru the library to learn about these so it's all stuff I know AGAIN.
Did a little bit on recorded books downloading and ebooks, which I really don't see people using. Or at least, the people who use them understand them and don't need our help. You can download ebooks of non-fiction titles but I don't think the selection is good enough. Plus, if you want a travel guide, you either have to download it and buy a PDA or print it out, which seems silly because you could probably by a more portable version at Borders for about the same price as printing it at Kinkos.
Ah well. A lot of my librarian buddies are working here today, so maybe I can sneak away on lunch break and eat with them. yay!
ugh...I wanted to learn about reader's advisory!!!!
in other news, I spent a chunk of last night working on a new banner that's pretty much a smaller version of the wallpaper I made. Now to decide if i want to stick with Boxer or go back to component. I wish I had the patience to learn CSS so I could code the stuff myself. Or at least alter it. Is there a simple explaination somewhere of how to take the layer code from LJ and alter it a bit to be prettier (like add headers to styles that dont' have headers etc? My last two layouts I've done by using tutorials people posted online along with the full code. suggestions of where to look?)
