so I watched 'History of Violence' last night.

that was really...well it was really VIOLENT! I guess I hadn't expected it to be quite so graphic. It had an interesting concept. Knowing that it was based on a graphic novel was interesting too, since I kept wondering how close it was to the original comic. Some scenes felt like panels out of a comic book. (I ordered the GN thru the library so I shall know soon enough). But this movie is not for the faint of heart, or stomach. I watched a large portion of the movie thru my fingers. And I guess there was some sort of controversy about "Scene 44" but I was totally unaware of it. It's one of the more gruesome moments, and I didn't have the stomach to watch the documentary on it, since they started it off immediately by showing the scene in slo-mo.

Anyway, it was a good movie, if you can handle it. I really had no desire to ever see Viggo Mortensen's butt, but if that's your thing, this movie has you covered for at least one scene. I really felt like there should have been more plot. It was almost too easy at the end. But, again, I shall peruse the comic and see how it compares. I thought Mortensen did a good job. Definately no Aragorn haha.

I think I'm going to get 'Capote' next. Everyone is requesting 'In Cold Blood' from the library and I really like Philip Seymour Hoffman, so yes, that is next.

yeah, I don't think we needed to see either of the sex scenes. At least, for not as long as we did. The one on the stairs was just odd. I wasn't clear if it was rape or what, especially since she ran away at the end. It seemed like she had the sex just to drain him of his energy and to get away.

I'm excited about 'Capote' I know pretty much nothing about it beyond the very basics. And that's it's supposed to be really good haha.

thats what I use movies for - learning history! who wants to read boring books when we "can get the cliffnotes" (angel quote I know) from movies!

So far I've seen goodnight and good luck, capote, enron: the smartest guys in the room and a bunch of other historical movies to educate myself. Next up, The New World! yay

just so you know, the presence of Colin Farell in any film immediately cancels out any educational value the film might have had.

He went from sorta cool to very very icky. And 'New World' came and went so fast from the theaters, I wasn't sure what happened!

I want to see 'good night and good luck' too, probably after 'Capote'. :) But I might have to break it up with something random like 'Madagascar'

aw, you do not suck! I love Australia (well, I loved the 18 days I visited there and long to go back). Perhaps they were just trying to keep you safe from the bad movie haha.

And you guys get the pretty box and exclusive features for the 'Serenity' dvd (http://www.serenitymovie.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=1797), I think Joss loves you more. :(
