...helped someone find a copy of 'hitchhiker's guide' and totally fangirled at him. Though, to be honest, he seemed interested in my babbling about the radio drama and how much I loved the books. He had already seen the new movie and had watched about half of the original BBC miniseries, so he's on his way to becoming a fan, I can tell. It makes me so happy to see those books getting checked out. I need to re-read them.

Speaking of books, I almost started crying on my lunch break today. I've only got about 40 pages left in 'The Book Thief' and it's just as good as all the reviewers said. I was a bit worried. I adored 'I am the Messenger' and bought this one because it was his new book. But, while 'Messenger' took place in modern day Australia, 'Book Thief' is about Nazi Germany. I wasn't sure if I would want to read it or where it would go that would be new. It's a beautiful book. Zusak has a way of writing prose and making it feel like poetry. It's just such a fantastic read. I don't want to spoil any of it for you, but if you have a chance, go to your local library or spin by Borders and grab a copy. I think you'll want to own this one so you can lend it out afterwards. I'll probably blubber over it after I'm totally finished with it because I can already tell I'm so very attached to these characters, I don't want to see them go. (FYI - you can read the first couple chapters from each of those books on Markus Zusak's homepage. Definately reccomended)

We got a new children's book, an illustrated version of the holiday classic 'I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas'. I emailed my supervisor about having a holiday sing-a-long storytime this year. And she said that was a great idea. That song is awesome. I will have to get [livejournal.com profile] zaubervz to send my the mp3 again so I may listen to it, even though it's practically summertime.

I also attempted to help someone who actually had no desired to be helped. I cannot stand people who wish to be ignorant. What is that? Especially teenagers. Haven't they seen enough stereotypes of the dumb teen who doesn't care? Don't they want to be something more impressive? Apparently not. All this person wanted was a note that said we couldnt' find anything so they could leave. And they refused to actually answer my questions, since I was trying to find a way to get around their issues and focus on the real project they were working on. But no, they just wanted to be slackers. ("when's this due?" "um, tomorrow, we had 2 days to work on it but I was sick one day and the other day I um...like...um, didn't go cuz of something")

*sigh* it's a good thing I know people like [livejournal.com profile] zaubervz, [livejournal.com profile] _____saveferris, and the pages at work otherwise I'd be concerned about teenagers of today.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to attempt to add a song to my MySpace profile so I can be like [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy hip and with it.

what I meant was that Raven does not pride herself on being ignorant. She may not read, but she doesn't walk around being stupid.

Lord, the two I helped today were like transplanted Jersey Girls, with 3 inch long hot pink finger nails and gum chewing...ick. Just so sad. They made a certain person, let's just call her "Spordelia" look like Socrates.

and no, I have not played Silent Hill yet. I finally got the hang of Civ IV and I've been addicted haha.

you are hot though...:)

But I totally know what you mean! About the willful, complete stupidity of some people. I think it's our culture. It's not just teenagers ( or all teenagers as you already pointed out either). Sigh. It's not legal to taser patron is it?

no, she had proved herself to be ignorant AND lacking in fashion sense. The two are not connected...but it's still funny to mock her. She had really embraced the whole 'dumb teenage girl' look. Perhaps I should admire her for her dedication of taking it all the way.

books were the devils plaything! They used to talk about Charles Dickens' novels like we talk about kids watching TV today.

And I think you misunderstood, I wasn't calling her an idiot for not reading, I was calling her an idiot because she seemed to be very proud of not knowing anything at all. If I don't understand something, I don't flaunt my ignorance, I ask for help or I just avoid the topic all together.

Heh heh... I don't know how many times I've put off an assignment with the excuse that the library books I ordered haven't come in yet. The girls admittedly had the right idea. Blame it on the vast, mysterious inner-workings of the public library system.

Oh, so I have to explain something. When you gave me that CD this morning, you mentioned something about "You too!" But I thought you said "U2," and I remembered that someone had recently told me about a guy who does all U2 parodies, so I thought that's what you were handing me. That's why I asked if they were songs. Not because I'm an idiot. (Well, that's not the reason in THIS particular case.)

Anyway, the CD is absolutely hilarious. I was laughing my head off the entire time. The first track, "You too" is especially funny. That is pretty much me exactly. I remember a bunch of times when I was going on a trip and somebody at the library is like "Have fun on your vacation!" And I'm like "You too!" So it really pretty much hit home.

See ya...

this girl's story had many many holes. Like, vast spaces of time where she was apparently being held in cold storage and unable to go to class or come to the library. I'm not entirely sure she knew what the assignment was either.

And as soon as I said "the 'you too' guy" I knew that was what you heard. Usually I say it in my Brian Regan voice but that wouldn't really have helped since you didn't know him haha. The science fair bit is one of my favorite and oft quoted, as is 'crank calls'. And now that you have heard the disc, if I randomly quote them, at least one person will know where they came from.

I pretty much spend my life forcing people to watch and listen to my favorite shows so I can quote them when I need to and get the correct response.
