John Berendt, you have FAILED ME!
Jun. 12th, 2006 07:30 pmOkay, I have to say 'City of Falling Angels' is no where near as good as 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'. Now, granted, I haven't read Good/Evil in many years, but I don't ever remember suffering thru the last few chapters like I am in this one.
Maybe it's because Good/Evil had a murder mystery, maybe it was the drag queen, maybe it was Savannah. Well, no Venice is just as interesting as Savannah. I think it's the fact that the book revolves around the Fenice Opera House being burned down. It's not quite as macabre? Not quiet as urgent? I'm just not drawn in to the story the way I was in Good/Evil.
Venice sounds like an interesting place and the book does make me want to go there. But it seems to be populated by committee members. Everyone in this book is on a committee, founding a committee, protesting a committee. And that does not make for exciting stuff.
But I'm so close to the end, I feel the need to finish it. But I'm so BORED I just want to move on! *headdesk*
