as Nathan said - "Casino Royawesome!"
Nov. 25th, 2006 01:07 amI'll admit, I had my doubts about the blonde Bond. And not just because he was blonde - because he wasn't pretty. After having dreamy Pierce Brosnan play Bond, I wasn't sure if I could handle someone who looked so rough. But Daniel Craig's Bond is a whole different kind of 007. You see, if Pierce had the villians at gun point, and the gun got knocked out of his hand, he'd probably be in trouble and have to rely on his cat like reflexes to get the weapon back before proceeding. Daniel, well, if you knock the gun out of his Bond's hands? He'll just bludgeon you to death with his huge fists. He'd rather not, because it hurts, but he's not above it.
Like many reviewers have said, this is the 'Batman Begins' approach to the super spy's story. The writers decided it was time to start over and create a whole new Bond, yet at the same time, show us the Bond that we've known and loved.
The opening sequence to this film was fantastic! If they give out awards for opening sequences, 'Casino' should win this year. (the song was sorta forgettable though...)
Judi Dench is always fantastic. She's been called the "headmistress" to Bond's school boy ways, and it's even truer in this movie, as Bond tests how far he can go with her. And she starts to see his potential grow as he goes from n00b to 007.
Also, speaking of awards, the "Free Running" stunt men should also get something for this movie, if just for that first chase. ZOMG! They are crazy peoples! I'm excited to see the "making of" features on the DVD just to find out how they pulled all those stunts off (or at least, what the set really looked like before the CGI clean up crew got in there).
Again, like 'Batman Begins' we see James turn into Bond - so he has to learn about suit jackets, martinis, and how being a SECRET agent works. And like BB, I left the theater thinking "OMG I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL!" because next time around, he will be full on Bond.
The torture sequence? ew. OW! YEEEOW! I'm a girl and I was in pain watching that. Though it makes sense, why invest all your super-villian money in expensive torture devices, when those are dangling right there?
I find Eva Green to be very forgettable. I mean, she's gorgeous, no doubt, but in a very run-of-the-mill way. *shrug* I don't think she'll be going down in history as a hot Bond girl. (though oddly enough, bother her and Craig are listed on IMDB as appearing in 'Golden Compass'....random)
