Finally sat down and watched 'Scoop' tonight. I think we rented it before the holidays!
It's sort of the polar opposite of 'Match Point'. Scarlet still plays an American, but instead of the manipulating, scary Nola Rice, she plays Sondra Pransky, an awkward, college would-be-journalist. And Woody Allen, instead of staying behind the camera, hops in front of it! So, you might guess, the films a comedy.
If you've never heard of it, I can tell you why - it would be impossible to advertise and make it sound good! Sondra's character is visited by a ghost of a dead journalist who found the scoop of a lifetime while riding on the boat up the river Styx. And she follows up on it (dragging along a magician?). Silliness ensues. And Hugh Jackman had those weird teeth caps on and was being British, which was very odd.
Also, Anthony Stewart ("Giles") Head was in it for approx. 30 seconds, with 2 lines of dialogue. For no apparent reason. Perhaps he just wanted to be in a scene with Hugh and Scarlet!
It's a very cute movie, though I feel like I've probably seen it before. But it was fun to watch, perfect if you've just popped a bowl of popcorn and just want something easy to watch. (and I was shocked! No sex? No violence? No swearing? Are they even allowed to make movies like that today??) I gave it a solid 3 stars on Netflix, which says "I liked it". And I did.
though I'll probably have forgotten all about it by tomorrow. *shrug*

Date: 2007-01-11 04:40 am (UTC)Have you seen Children of Man? It has a very graphic novel feel to it. And it's directed by Alfonso C.. yeah, I'm not gonna try to spell it. Anyway, the guy who directed HP3.

ChiewChewie'The Operative' from 'Serenity' is also in it! It's gotten a very high rating on RottenTomatoes too.I sort of want to see 'Perfume' and I REALLY want to see Pan's Labrynth. Looks very 'Dark Crystal' to me.
