*hands out chill pills*
Feb. 22nd, 2007 11:22 pmafter suffering thru one too many "omg last night's episode was horrible becase [insert spoiler here]" posts on
veronica_mars, I ended up adding myself to this friending meme going around. So we have lots of new peeps reading the journal today *waves hello*
I dunno, I wasn't part of the fandom community when I was watching Buffy so when the big changes hit on that show, I didn't get to see the fan reactions as much. But some of the posts on the VM comm have been just ridiculous in there anger and attacking of the show (and other fans). I love the people who think this is a personal attack on them. I'm so sure that the writers sat around like Mr. Burns, attempting to get the small fanbase they have to turn on them. No no no. To paraphrase Master Whedon - don't give them what they want, give them what they need.
Let's not pass judgement on what happened last week until we see where this is all going. Perhaps the events from 'Mars,Bars' will lead to some exciting twists and turns in the Veronica-verse. If you want a show that never grows or changes, then just buy season 1 and keep it on repeat. I want a show with characters and stories that can go any way they want to.
Anyway, now that I have all these new buddies that are VM fans -
crazylike_afox,
impalalove,
ladynaberrie,
lostacanthus,
meronica_vars, and
shinetastic - I'm hoping we can have some intelligent and civil discussions about the future of one of the best shows on TV right now. :D

Date: 2007-02-23 04:34 am (UTC)On a whole, I liked the episode. I almost didn't watch it, (home issues had me down) and I'm glad I changed my mind.

Logan and Veronica kind of remind me of Buffy an Angel. You know with the love of epic proportions and all. In the Buffyverse, Angel got his own spinoff which i think stopped the relationship from stagnating. Of course in Veronica Mars, spinoff's arent exactly viable, and my main concern was that the rest of the season (and the show) would be spent in this vile loop of angst, but I felt this episode really, honestly showed them moving on, as well as managing to be civil to each other. I feel that nothing but good things can come from this.
phew! anyway can't wait till next week!

Date: 2007-02-23 10:58 pm (UTC)I'm happy they are not together for the moment. In the one RT interview I've read, he made it pretty clear that he wanted them together. I'd rather they just stayed friends - I don't mind sexual tension, that's fun, but it's only fun when it's tension. 'Mars, Bars' reminded me of what a fun character Logan is when he's not moping 24/7. I hope they can keep that up for the rest of the season, because mopey Logan and angsty Veronica are not as much fun as snarky Logan and sassy Veronica.

Date: 2007-02-23 10:52 pm (UTC)I don't trust ratings anyways, and I only like to use them (like all statistics) for the power of making my opinion look good. I've never met anyone with a Nielsons box on their TV, and with all the digital cable now, you'd think they'd be able to track who was watching a lot better. Ratings do not reflect quality - 'American Idol' rakes in however many viewers each week but shows like 'John Doe', 'Firefly', and 'Veronica Mars' come in low even though they are far superior products.

Date: 2007-02-24 12:57 am (UTC)I hate 'American Idol', 'Canadian Idol' and stuff like that. Reality tv has gotten so overrated nowadays. 'Survivor' has to be in its seventh or eighth season, and I kinda have developed a distaste for it nowadays when in the past, I would have cheered for the winners. I agree with you, I'm more of the "superior fans" in regards to tv like that. I still remember 'Jack and Bobby.' Oh, man, I would have liked to know who was president.

Date: 2007-02-24 02:22 am (UTC)I *remember* 'Jack & Bobby', but I never watched it. Didn't seem like there would be much buttkicking or snarkiness. I tend to lean towards shows with that in the mix. :)
