little things (because I am tired)
Jun. 19th, 2007 11:31 pm- thank you
demonqueen666 for pointing out my BSG quote was wrong! That's what I get for trusting IMDB. I should have known better.
- Having 15 12-year olds hanging out together at the same time is not the best idea ever. Worse idea -- providing them with sugar filled snacks and drinks! (Nah, just kidding, our program at the library went smoothly today and it was in a large part due to the "Volunteens". We had 120 kids show up for the Kick-Off which lasted 2 hours and the Volunteens were in charge of explaining the crafts/games/activities to each child!) Still...they do get a bit spazzy...
- My co-workers son Volunteen'd and was being followed around by a bunch of the girl Volunteens after the program was over. It made me laugh. I would never want to be 12 again, but when I was 12, it was fun. I remember having those innocent crushes, where you knew the guy was cute but you really had no idea what to do with him. haha. It makes me laugh. And then cringe. And then run out of the room and mock.
- Watched the first episode of the BBC 'Robin Hood' with dinner tonight. I enjoyed it. I'm already very interested by the anti-war stance Robin has taken when speaking about the Crusades and the fact that Marian has some spunk (and she's not anorexic! Oh British TV, I loves you!)
- And along those same lines, any of you Canadians on here heard of this show - Slings & Arrows ? It was advertising in my Shakespeare Theatre "playbill". Is it as good as the back of the box would have me believe?
- Iced Coffees at Dunkin Donuts are on sale for 99 cents right now. I snagged one this afternoon to help me with our program. I still dont' really like the flavor of coffee, but I do enjoy the buzz of caffeine. And it's not as bad when it's iced with cream and sugar (except they use WAY too much sugar at the Severna Park store, got a bit nasty near the bottom of the cup)
- Okay, probably going to go to bed soon. I am exhausted. And (I know you will all be thrilled) I finally broke down and checked out a copy of 'Twilight' AND actually started to read it (this will be the 3rd time I've checked it out, first time I've had a chance to actually crack it open).
- OH! Speaking of reading, I'm working on a Non-Fiction Readers Advisory for library staff to help them become familiar with good Non Fiction titles they can recommend to patrons. So, if anyone has read any good non-fiction recently, tell me! I'm always looking for ideas.
- okay, seriously, I'm really going to bed now....

Date: 2007-06-20 05:18 am (UTC)I'm about four episodes into Robin Hood. I didn't like it, at first. I didn't think Robin had enough personality, but by the end of the episode, I was cheering and such. I like it.
But it's British, you see. Not like Trailer Park Boys, which is a national disgrace.
Actually, the only reason I've not seen Slings and Arrows is that it's never been on when I was watching. Otherwise, it looks pretty good.

Date: 2007-06-20 10:00 pm (UTC)I think Robin Hood is like Superman for me - I'm a pretty easy sell. And I'm with you, I was worried at the start of the episode, but by the end (even with the cheesy slow-mo moments) I was enjoying myself. It's not great art but it's a lot of fun, which is what I want in my Robin Hood tv show (I have BSG to bog me down with the dark side of humanity)

Date: 2007-06-20 09:56 pm (UTC)I'm tearing thru 'Twilight'. I actually read until I passed out last night (woke up around 1 with my face sitting in the book). Definitely a much easier read than 'Thunderstruck'. (http://www.amazon.com/Thunderstruck-Erik-Larson/dp/1400080665/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-8520622-4317429?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1182376480&sr=8-1) Bella has just gone to the beach with her friends...
The weirdest part is, I keep picturing the guy I saw play 'Hamlet' as on Saturday as being Edward. If I had to cast the movie, I think he would be my Edward right now.

Date: 2007-06-20 09:58 pm (UTC)That's the problem I'm having right now, I found all these great reviews of books but I don't have time to read them to see if it's something I could give to the average patron and have them enjoy. So...if you've already read some books and you tell me they are good, I will take your word for it bwahahhaha!
*goes to see if we have 'Death by black hole' in the system*
