HP7 Spoilers!

After the "Epilogue". I really wish Rowling could have worked SOME of this information into the final epilogue. I don't need to know the middle names of grandchildren, but the professions of the surviving characters and the "revolution" in the way the Ministry is run would really have made the ending feel a bit tighter.

I feel like I should print this out and stick it in the back of my copy of HP7 so the next time I read it, I can just pretend it's part of the end of the book...

Love JKR and all, but as far as I'm concerned, if it's not in the book, then it doesn't count!

The last non-Potter book I finished ended ambiguously, with more info online. I didn't bother. If there's more to say, say it in the book!

but...but, it's offcial! JKR said it! It's not some random fanfic or anything.

I hate books with "online" elements. Put it in the damn book!!!! There's a bunch of teen books doing this now and it annoys the hell out of me! Lots of TV shows doing it too (*cough*Lost*cough) and it's just rude to leave assume your readers/viewers are going to spend even MORE time researching your fake characters.

So...I'll just hold out for the Special Edition Harry Potters that will come out in 10 years, hopefully including "deleted scenes" ;)

ok, sure, I guess JKR's opinion counts more than fanfic. I was just being grumpy :-)

I'm interested to hear you say that you don't like the online extention thing either. I was wondering how much this was being done, and if it will catch on or die out. Do you get a sense of how people feel about this gimmick from the fan communities you're part of?

I think it wears thin. Both 'Lost' and 'Heroes' got a little out of control, creating half a dozen "tie-in" sights that required you to register and then you also needed to register for text messages yadda yadda. I don't think it really caught on. A couple people posted about text messages but it usually turned out to be a "drink your ovaltine" sort of note, or something with even less relevance to actually solving any "mysteries". But there was usually at least one fan that would fall for it, so we would just read their posts on the communities and live vicariously through them.
