Oct. 20th, 2007 12:26 amRowling says Dumbledore is Gay
This apparently happened on Tuesday. I'm shocked I hadn't heard about it until now. As
Still, kudos to Rowling for just saying it and not being all coy or clever or winking and nudging.
I guess if there was going to be fall out, it would have happened by now. Perhaps no one cares anymore. I know my interest in HP has dropped since I finished the 7th book...

Isn't great art supposed to be complete, with the stuff that is left open to interpretation left that way intentionally? Am I a big dork because I just implied that the HP books might be "great art"? I guess this is why I never watch outtakes- I like to see the finished product as complete.
Anyway, I had always assumed that the gay character was Slughorn. And what's with the thing at the end of that article about Neville marrying Hannah Abbott? Doesn't he hook up with Luna in the book? (the book is about 5 feet away from me right now, but I'm too lazy to check)

Date: 2007-10-20 05:45 pm (UTC)Also, can you imagine the Encyclopedia entry for Dumbledore if she chose to reveal this info that way? It would read something like, "Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry; helped Nicholas Flamel, acted as the mentor to Harry Potter, and defeated Grindelwald, for whom he was completely gay. No really, Dumbledore was gay. Seriously. So your Dumbledore/Grindelwald fic? Absolutely true."

And will they bother to keep writing it now that they know he is gay and its not quite as risque. They'll have to write about him with WOMEN to make it true slash fic, right?

Date: 2007-10-21 02:04 am (UTC)And wow... that's an interesting point you have there. But I think that it would still be slash... I don't know though. I'm not terribly familiar with the nuances of fanfiction.
