So...we just finished watching 'Spiderman 3'

Okay, I've never 100% liked a Spiderman movie. I enjoyed the second one more than the first. This one...well, even though the DVD sleeve said 2 hours, it felt like 3.

Mary Jane isn't that annoying in the comics, is she? I mean, she just can't be! I despise MJ in the movies. Its a combination of writing and acting.

Also, did anyone else think that Bryce Dallas Howard with blond hair makes her look a heck of a lot like Katee Sackhoff? Perhaps that's why I was crushing on her the whole movie.

Ursula is a cutie pie too. Seriously, why would Peter waste time on MJ with those two existing! *sigh* MJ needs to be recast and suddenly gain some brains and self esteem.

WTF was with the dancing? I was just...disturbed!

TOO MANY CHARACTERS! Or should I say, too many random story bits floating around. As [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy pointed out to me, Batman Begins had a couple villians and managed to pull it off. But I think BB was far more balanced. Spiderman had too many things going on. Peter and MJ, MJ's issues, crazy!Harry, amnesia!Harry, crazyoutofamnesia!Harry, Eddie Brock, Blacksuit Spidey, Venom, Sandman, OMG-sandman-killed-my-uncle, Gwen it hot,...

The editor stole the movie again. Bruce Campbell amused the heck out of me with his silly French accent.

I cannot deny that the action scenes were fun, but there was too much time between and enough stories floating around to fill at least one other movie. In fact, I thought the whole idea was to save the Venom story for the next movie...is there not going to be a next movie? Did they feel obligated to cram that all into this one?

So, Spidey and I are just not meant to be. Give me Batman or Superman any day.

Spiderman; one reason why I didn't watch the third movie (loved the first two) is because a friend saw it the weekend it opened and absolutely found it confusing. Trusting her opinion, I didn't see it. Glad to hear I was on the right path... ^^

Batman! XD Love the movies!

It wasn't confusing, it was just so little of it was connected. It felt like a bunch of movie people sat around going "you know what would be cool?" "ooh we should do that!" and no one said "um...why???"

See, I love Spidey in the comics. Which is probably why the movies make me so gosh-derned mad: the only characters they've gotten even remotely right are Norman Osborne and J Jonah Jameson! (And, NO, Mary Jane is NOT annoying in the comics.)

Is there a Spidey comic arc you could recommend? Like most of the Superheroes, there's just too much! Any favorite writers or stories?

The casting of Dunst as MJ has always been one of the biggest pieces of sand in my oyster about those movies. She just doesn't fit, and the character isn't right. Dunno, that's just IMO. I found her slightly less annoying in the third movie, but maybe that's just because my expectations of the part had been lowered, but I kept wanting to switch her and BDH's roles! I would have rather had *her* in all three movies, and they wouldn't have had to do crazy dye jobs on either of them! And Ursula rocks my socks too. I agree with your BDH/Dunst assessment. AD and I kept saying the same thing - go for the hot blond!!! Stacey came off as far more intelligent and secure about herself. I just can't stand this low self-esteem thing they have with MJ in the movies. "Tell me I was great." "Tell me you love me" geezus, needy much?? Gwen is going to school and doing modeling for office supplies, clearly a nice balance between education and career. She's not taking easy credits either, since she's in that class with Peter!

The Sandman thing bugged me too. Love Raimi to pieces but its like he got hooked on this REVENGE plot bunny and just kept adding more and more and more. "I'm so sorry, I accidentally shot your uncle and left him for dead but I had a reason cuz my daughter is sick." Um...not so much? I thought for a moment that his daughter might be in the crowd below, that she might be the thing that stops him from trying to kill Spiderman. As cheesy as it would be for him to see her and be like "aaaaaaaaw my little girl", its no less cheesy than his big goodbye speech and then blowing away in the wind.
