judging books by their covers.
Nov. 21st, 2007 12:12 amHad my Teen Book Banter today for 'Uglies'. It went very well. I had 4 teens show up (though two of them were my employees...*hums* we love to pad our stats). Lots of great comments on the book. I was happy to actually hear a few insights that I had not thought of! The hardest part was avoiding spoilers, since one of the members had read the entire series and the other had just finished book 1! I hope we didn't ruin any of the story for her!
While I was working on the discussion questions for the program, I stumbled across the UK cover for 'Uglies' and 'Pretties'. VERY DIFFERENT from the US covers.
Ew, the UK Extras cover is just weird!!! (You can also see the UK Specials cover here...I think the UK covers are very creepy).
The Chinese take on Uglies is...different.
The Polish cover is...whoa.
The Japanese Manga-fy 'Uglies' (it's not a full on comic book, it just has illustrations)
The Italians have the same Uglies but different Pretties...what does that mean?
The German set may be my favorite.
After re-reading 'Uglies' for this book talk, I really picked up on a lot of things I missed the first time round. I think I was very distracted by Tally the first time through, because she is so brainwashed by this culture of Ugly/Pretty. But since I knew where it was all going this time, I found myself trying to focus on details. Have so many other books I want to read, but now I kinda want to speed through 'Pretties' and 'Specials' again!
