[livejournal.com profile] blu_harvest called me Monday night to discuss the new format X-Play has adopted. I had not seen the show yet, but I listened as he explained his problems with it.

Now I've watched 3 episodes and I completely agree.

Maybe it is just because there is, once again, a dry spell in new video games. After the big holiday releases, there are not too many big games being released in January. So, I 'm hoping a lot of these annoying little segments are just there to fill time until we have some real reviews! And the format wouldn't be so bad if the show was a full hour. Right now, I feel like we spent half the show listening to what will be on next on the show.

At least they stopped saying "The Center of the Gaming Universe" after that first episode. What a stupid catch phrase! You can almost imagine the suits sitting around a table trying to think of something "cool" to call the show.

I will say that the first episode was the worst of the 3 so far. You could tell Adam and Morgan were not quite comfortable with the new format. But they seems a teensy bit more at ease now. The interview sessions are weird. I'm not sure there is even a point to talking to the game designers. Of course they are going to say that their game is cool and innovative and state of the art! I'd prefer a review of the demo over listening to the 'Devil May Cry 4' Capcom rep talk about how awesome the game will be.

I'll keep watching for the reviews, but I have a feeling I'll be fast-forwarding through large portions of the show. :\
