Promo shots from the new X Files movie are circulating on the web.
gods, DD looks OLD. GA still looks hot. Maybe it's because he's not in a suit. Suits can be slimming. Or perhaps it's the hair (though I do not like GA's all straight like that, where is the Scully cut!). Either way, I will not be digging out my homemade DDEB member card anytime soon! (bonus points if you know what DDEB stands for).
okay, gonna work on my homework now...

Date: 2008-01-18 06:35 pm (UTC)I love how Chris Carter is still spinning away.. "We spent a lot of time on (the mythology) and wrapped up a lot of threads. We want a stand-alone movie, not a mythology conspiracy one." OR, Chris, you screwed up the story so badly and ended it in such an unsatisfactory way that a stand-alone was the ONLY viable option. gah!
And, if he thinks the M/S relationship is what matters to the fans, at what point in the relationshiop will the movie occur? Because it was the lovely sexual/intellectual tension that brought people to the show, but then in the desperate later years M&S got together, right? Sort of? And wasn't there a kid in there somewhere? Let's hope they do this as a "lost" episode from like, season 3, where M&S have mysteriously aged. Yeah, that could be part of the whole story- they wake up one day and look like they've aged 15 years. What mysterious foces could be at work? And what will Scully do when she realizes that the years have been much kinder to her than to her partner?
And yes, GA is still hot! Although I hate that people are talking about this like it's something remarkable, I mean, she doesn't even turn 40 until the end of this year! I was laughing in Bleak House when her character is described as having been "a remarkable beauty in her time". In her time? Like, right now??
Oh, you know if you mention XF, I will come out of the woodwork to rant :-)

Date: 2008-01-18 09:08 pm (UTC)While trying to figure out what season I stopped watching, I ended up on the Wikipedia entry for X Files. I can't believe that show was on for as long as it was when it got pretty sloppy after season 3. Yet I think I watched thru season 6! I can't even remember how it ended, except that there was a helicopter involved and CSM was flying it!
If CC is telling the truth and this will be a myth free episode, then maybe, MAYBE, the movie will be fun. Those were the episodes I loved.
I hope it comes out in August and you and I can go see it together then go to a bar afterwards and complain about it. ;-)
Re: oh god where do I start?
Date: 2008-01-19 03:47 am (UTC)imdb says the movie is coming out July 25, but maybe it will be postponed. That would be so cool to watch it together! Wow- I suppose if DD and GA have aged 10 years, that means we have too, huh?
Did you read in wikipedia about how the Lone Gunmen pilot (in March 2001) was about a US govt plot to crash a 727 into the World Trade Center? I had no idea.. pretty freaky.
In other news I just saw Juno. Mixed feelings..
Re: oh god where do I start?
Date: 2008-01-20 12:00 am (UTC)Yes, we must see it together! Plan on it! July 25...the lobster bake is usually, what, the second Thursday in August or something? It should still be in theaters!
I had heard about the LGM pilot thing, it is very weird. But proves it wasn't that original an idea.
Really? I want to hear more about 'Juno'? Does it have the same sort of issues that we discussed with 'Knocked Up'?
Re: oh god where do I start?
Date: 2008-01-20 06:14 pm (UTC)Funny, my memory is that *I* made *you* watch the Butt Genie. But if you want to take credit for that one, go right ahead!
Juno is the opposite of Knocked Up in that it focuses on the girl, and she's a very strong and smart character (wonderfully portrayed, too). My issues were (no spoilers, but don't read the rest of this if you are planning on seeing it soon and want to form your own opinions- I regret having read reviews beforehand, fwiw)
1. The dialogue is like Kevin Smith or Joss in hyperdrive, which you'd think might be a good thing, but it sounded way forced to me. And like it was written by someone in their mid-30s trying to sound hip (which it was). (not that one can't be hip in their mid-30s, but you need to take into account that a 16 year old isn't going to have the same pop-culture reference points as you. And that even the hippest kid isn't going to pop off with a clever pop-culture laced one-liner every time they open their mouth)
2. I feel like I've been whacked over the head by the quirky/indie/hipster marketing machine. When is quirky genuine and when is it a marketing ploy? Who knows, but this seemed way on the corporate-quirky end of the spectrum to me. Especially the first 20 minutes or so. If you can get past that, it maybe isn't so bad.
Ok, I just found formerly-of-gawker Emily Gould's review, and she says it better than I do:
