tv thoughts: Life
Feb. 10th, 2009 11:15 pmSo, AD and I started watching 'Life' with Damian Lewis. I'll admit the only reason I had any interest in this show was that I really liked Lewis in 'Band of Brothers'. But it grew on us pretty quickly. We're trying to catch up so we can watch in real time...I think we only have 3 more episodes until we're ready for tomorrow's show.
There are a couple things that bug me about Season 2 though. I feel like it has "Studio Note" written all over it, especially when it comes to the female cop, Dani Reese. In the first season, Reese was hardcore, her hair always tied up in a bun while on duty and she didn't take anything from anyone. The only time she took her hair down was to blend in to a crowd for undercover work or when she was off duty. Suddenly, in Season 2, she has permanently wavy hair with highlights, always styled just right. Her tops are low cut. And there were some attitude adjustments. I can just see the whole "make her more girlie" note stuck to the season 2 contract.
Also, the amount of sex in the show has increased. I find the Tidwell/Reese relationship to be intriguing but I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'm not bothered by whatever is going on with Adam Arkin and Yo-Saff-Bridge (I have a total mental block on names with this show since most of the actors have been on other shows I've seen...except for Dani so I know she's Dani). I don't know how I feel about Cruise hooking up with his ex-wife...I know they had unfinished business, but I feel bad for her new husband.
And I'm not sure about the addition of Rachel. The angstly teenage character can get old really fast.
All that being said, this show is fun to watch. It's a lot like 'House' for me - I'm tuning in mostly to see Damian Lewis be all zen and interact with Adam Arkin. Dani is hot, so that doesn't hurt the show. And the overall mystery of who put Crews in prison and why is intriguing. I'm just hoping it doesn't get too convoluted, I already feel like I need to start taking notes.
Also, what is with the soundtrack on this show? I've recognized a ridiculous amount of songs - Guster, Radiohead, Coldplay...sometimes all in one show! I guess that's what happens when the tv network is owned by the same guy that owns the records label...
