Silent Hill:Homecoming

I FINALLY finished Silent Hill: Homecoming, the latest installment in the Silent Hill series. This was classic Silent Hill - creepy town, weird religion, gory deaths, and, of course, killer nurses. Alex arrives home after being discharged from the Army. He discovers his hometown of Shepard's Glen abandoned and keeps having visions of his little brother, Josh, running through the town. Things just get creepier from there, as he find outs lots of people have gone missing in the town. His mother is catatonic, sitting at home in a rocking chair and refusing to speak to Alex. Oh, and there are monsters that attack him...really gross monsters with no faces and waaaay too many legs. Along with the occasional zombie dog (it's not survival horror without a zombie dog!). After the letdown that was Silent Hill: The Room, the last SH game I tried, I had a lot of fun playing this. I don't really play these games to for the gameplay, I play them for the story that sucks me in almost immediately (which is ironic since the story tends to boil down to the exact same thing in every game and I guessed all the basics by about halfway through playing...still, I want it to be confirmed so I had to beat the game to get the full story). SH:H suffers from usual survival horror problems - weird camera angles, really dark hallways, crappy fighting controls, and overly complicated puzzles (I used the GameFaq walkthrough a lot because some of them were just too much for me to figure out on my own without going as crazy as the townsfolk). But it's a fun game if you like the SH series. Hardcore SH fans will want to replay it to get all of the different endings. Me? I take whatever ending I get the first time around, then Google until I find the rest on YouTube. hehe. |
