Oklahoma, Aussie-style

Okay, I didn't actually watch all 3 hours. I remembered about 2 songs in that Oklahoma is not one of my favorite R&H musicals; it has some good songs (Beautiful Morning, Surrey w/ Fringe, People will say, Poor Jud - oh, yeah, and Oklahoma!) but its also got some plain weird plot stuff going on. I skipped to my favorite songs (i.e. the ones with Hugh and the main girl) and that was good enough.

It was weird to watch because it looks so Australian. Maybe it's just me, but all the Western outfits look far more Outback than Oklahoma. And it's odd enough hearing Hugh Jackman do an American accent, but doing a Western American accent...and then trying to SING with that accent...it wasn't bad, just distracting. But I'm happy to have seen this much of it. He's clearly having too much fun, but it's all dubbed so the "live" aspect really isn't there. You can see when he's done something vocally on stage that he didn't do in the studio by the way his mouth looks.

But, I do want more musicals with Hugh Jackman. He can clearly carry a tune and a show.

WOLVERINE:THE MUSICAL - SONGS AND EXPLOSIONS! YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO HOLLYWOOD! DO IT!

I've never been a fan of Oklahoma (and I am a lover of musicals)...

Oh good, I'm glad its not just me. I like the songs when I have on a R&H mix, but the entire show is just sorta meh.

Not bells, CLAWS! There'd be a song called "Snkt Snkt (went my heart)"

I kind of hate "Oklahoma!" a little bit--and I was in it in High School. Laurie just bothers me. Luckily, I did a few numbers with just the guys, and those were awesome. I think maybe I'd like Oklahoma! a little bit more if Laurie and the entire Dream Ballet were cut out and it was just about a bunch of cowboys. ^_^

yeah, I did NOT remember that ballet at all. I got up to get something and came back and they were all dancing and I was like "wtf?" *skip* I like the songs but I agree, I'd rather it was about a bunch of cowboys than all this weird stuff about crazy guys in the smokehouse wanting to poison the town.
