I think I saw your post linking to that comm and it was the final straw in the "why am I reading this stupid book when I could be reading something GOOD" so I picked up Graveyard Book haha. I'm horrible with book clubs because I am a slooooow reader. Though I'm already halfway through Graveyard Book...maybe I'll join for a bit...

What's the unfortunately bad "Alis" book you were reading?

Graveyard Book is indeed awesome. I love the dead characters and Bod's curiosity. All classic top-notch Gaiman in a wondrously original story. Almost makes me wish I'd been raised by the Dead...

It's Alis by Naomi Rich (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4524798.Alis). I'm sure it probably gets better as you get into it, but I was just bored by the writing style. Very wooden dialogue and just not grabbing me, and there's too many other books to read for me to suffer through that!

Graveyard Book, on the other hand, is very hard to put down! Just finished the chapter where Bod makes the little headstone for Liza. Very sweet.
