ZOMG! Good episode. Great balance of "Echo of the Week", overall Dollhouse mystery, and random character exposition. (though I should have guessed it would be quality stuff with Jane Espenson as one of the writers.
So...Paul really screwed the pooch. I mean, I'm pretty sure that the FBI files attached to November/Mellie that vanished when he searched for the fingerprints were deleted by someone in the Dollhouse, waiting to see if he was looking. That, or Alpha. Either way, uh oh. At least the fingerprint lady sorta believes him now, which means he can logically go to her for more help if he needs it.
I feel bad for Mellie. I mean, she doesn't know! And Paul is pushing her away, then making out with her, and probably going back into push away mode after his shower scene. And if he does follow through with his Dollhouse saving, Mellie will be wiped and he will have to restore her original personality.
Also, whoa, how many times has she been busted? And how did her handler let that happen??? There were quite a few mugshots in that file.
Echo's story was actually interesting because of the connection to Dewitt and the whole idea of life after death. Boyd's reaction to the whole thing was very key too...he wasn't solely concerned about Echo, he was disturbed by this whole idea.
Topher's story was pretty sad too. Once a year he makes this ultimate girlfriend and celebrates his birthday alone. Dewitt comments that this is somehow combating loneliness, but does it really? I mean, Topher knows that he's just used a computer to create a girl who likes him, which is different from actually finding a girl that likes him. (shades of the BtVS episode I Was Made To Love You, though hopefully Topher is not on the road to Warren-ness).
And the preview clip for next week??? OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As I've posted many times before, I think the whole "doll of the week" plot wears thin fast and I don't think that the show can continue like that - and just from the little clips we saw, I hope that next week it gets closer to becoming much more. AND FRAKKIN' WASH! *flails*
On a side note: Do you think Topher and Sheldon (Big Bang Theory) would get along? Or would their self-proclaimed brilliance be too much for one room? I think they would be very weird BFFs since they are in different areas of science. Hm...

Date: 2009-04-25 05:19 am (UTC)I really loved the Topher/Sierra!imprint friendship. And that's all it was. He created a hot!nerd who would love and understand him and help him celebrate his birthday. But that's it. No funny business, which is good after everything Sierra's been through. A sweet, innocent engagement with Topher was what she needed. And maybe it's wrong but I was kind of okay with it. More so than with 'Catherine'/'Roger' relationship.
Next week looks AWESOME but I'm thinking most of what we saw in the preview will happen at the very end of the episode and continue into the finale.
I wasn't impressed with the Echo-engagement this week. It was better than some of the early episodes but still didn't really hold my interest...However, the Adelle/Echo!imprint scenes were good. LOVE that she called her 'Addy':).

Yeah, I liked that Topher/Sierra was a friendship based on a mutual respect. Which says a lot about Topher really, since we know he had to create her personality (oh and how sad to have to create your BFF - they would have no stories to tell you that you had not already heard...). I hope Topher does stays innocent and does not take a Warren/Knox turn.
