I might need to stop by Burger King and get my Star Trek glasses. I'm just saying...
Yes, I saw Star Trek again today. I convinced my mom and dad that they NEEDED to see it...NOW! Here are some random thoughts from that second time around:
- Chekov is adorable. I love a man who can't pronouce the letter "V" correctly (and they gave him PLENTY!)
- The first rule of Star Trek is that you do NOT talk about Spock's mom.
- The second rule of Star Trek is that YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT SPOCK'S MOM!
- Leonard Nimoy should read audiobooks. And not Star Trek ones, real books (er, you know what I mean).
- I saw the TRIBBLE! I don't know how I missed it the first time!
- oh wait, yes I do, I was staring at the awesome that is Simon Pegg as Scotty. "You're from the future? Do they have sandwiches?"
- Tyler Perry was a very random and distracting cameo, mostly because he wasn't really a character, just some guy. So instead of saying Zachary Quinto who played Sylar is playing Spock, my brain went "WTF Admiral Tyler Perry?"
- Alan commented that he was pretty sure the Beastie Boys would not have survived that many millenia, but I argued that young Kirk was the right age to think that Beastie Boys were actually cool music.
- speaking of music, I was kinda disappointed with the new theme music for this movie, it didn't really stand out to me. I did love the recording of the original theme at the end (*buys on iTunes*).
- I love the Alternate Universe plot twist. It lets them get away with so much and it works for me. I'm not a hardcore Trekker though...but even if I were - it's an alternate universe! Just go with it people, have fun! It's not real Trek, it's new Trek!
-In the sequel, the remaining Vulcans will join together as part of a rag tag fleet, searching for a place to call home. No wait, it's been done.
- Chekov is adorable. I love his little curls. "I khan due thees!"
- Scotty has the most thankless job. Poor guy gives everything he's got, saves the day, but usually gets little congrats because he lives in the basement. This is probably why he turns to food for comfort.
- I may not know a lot about Trek but I knew that Adm. Pike ends up in a rolling box with flashing lights on it in the original series, and I kept mentally preparing myself for him to be tortured horribly...but he didn't. Sequel? Or has the altered reality saved his legs?
- It was nice to see the Cloverfield monster get some more work. Red is a good look for him.
- I doubted Spock/Uhura when I heard the initial rumblings...but I have no issue with it now.
- Also, I want Uhura's earrings. Someone get on that right now! Why have they made Star Trek cologne but not Uhura's earrings???
- And her dress. Where is the pattern for her dress? Or they should just sell them so lazy people like me can just buy them. You're missing out on a lot of money here Paramount!!!
- someone posted screencaps of a bootlet copy of the movie on
cap_it earlier today...I ignored it at the time because they looked so BLUE but now I'm pondering d/l them for icons...because I need more of the pretty!!!!
- I kind of feel the need to re-watch The Wrath of Khan...but I do not own it...maybe I can Netflix it, wonder if they bought the blu-ray set for Netflix...
- I went ahead an made a "star_trek" tag for this journal because I feel this will not be the last post about this movie!

Date: 2009-05-13 06:52 am (UTC)I thought Simon Pegg was pretty good as Scotty, but I really wish Paul McGillion had gotten the part.
I was also unsure about Spock/Uhura, but that scene in the transporter convinced me. <3
I walked out of the theatre ready for a sequel, but I suppose I'll have to settle for seeing it again...

Date: 2009-05-14 02:05 am (UTC)At both of the showing I have attended, the audience applauded at the end, which makes me think everyone is ready for the sequel already haha.

Date: 2009-05-13 08:05 pm (UTC)I saw it again last night. :D And holycrap, you and I had the same thought about the remaining Vulcans.
I really hope that Alternate Reality has saved Pike from the light-up rolling box. I really like Pike.
Rubies is making the costumes. Probably not the highest quality, but maybe not so bad. (I kind of hate the costume department for deciding that making custom fabric would be a GREAT idea. Oh well..) I want a Starfleet Academy uniform. :D
It was really nice of Boss Nass to give the Vulcan Science Academy blueprints to the bongo submarine so that they could make a fun little ship for Spock.

Date: 2009-05-14 02:02 am (UTC)I was not aware that he read the novelization...that would be worth listening to, just to hear him read. He has a good voice too, though for some reason I usually end up staring at his teeth...I have this weird fascination with mouths...
I want a Starfleet Academy Uniform too! They didn't look that complicated, someone needs to just put out the pattern...then I can make AD sew it for me.
