Tropic Thunder is on...that movie is so wrong, it's right. Probably the only movie I've liked Matthew McConoHAY in.
Er, I had something else to say...we saw UP yesterday. It was fantastic. I'll write up a "movie thoughts" post later but I have to say this - the trailers in front of it were PAINFUL! After sitting through the trailer for the butchering of yet another classic children's picture book (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) and another one with talking guinea pigs that are spies and make a lot of poop jokes (G-Force), it is easy to see one thing - PIXAR respects us. They don't pander to you or your children, they make movies that are perfect and speak to you no matter what age you are. Yeah yeah, they'll crank out a CARS every few years to pay the bills, but then they create masterpieces like Wall*E and UP and you realize they aren't just some studio cranking out films for money, they LOVE movies, they LOVE storytelling, they LOVE the audience.
uuuuuh yeah...I'm distracted by the ridiculousness of Tropc Thunder.
We're going to pick strawberries tomorrow! I love strawberries! I have to control myself and not over-pick (like the 3 bags of blueberries I picked last year...though they were good on cereal).
Someone from my old workplace just Twittered about the death of a co-worker. He was a really good man, always very supportive and nice. I didn't really know him very well, but he was always so nice to me when he saw me, encouraged me to try stuff, came to my programs to take photos or just check it out, said hello when he was in the branch, always smiling and cheerful. He had a heart attack in his driveway this afternoon and died. His family told my friend to pass it on and she knew Twitter and Facebook would be the best way to get the word out...it feels weird to find out about someone's death like that (well, someone who isn't a famous actor) but if it wasn't for those sites, I wouldn't know, probably wouldn't find out until I talked to Amy...we live in interesting times...
Probably shouldn't have blogged about his death in the same post as Tropic Thunder...or UP...but my brain is kind of all over like that.
Ah well, time for some Sims before bed...

Date: 2009-06-07 02:51 am (UTC)I just loved the orginality of the storyline, all the little moments in the narrative...and the message. Up has such a beautiful, moving, masterfully told message about enjoying your life and the opportunities you get and living without getting bogged down in regret, and I can't even...
I hope everyone goes to see this movie. I don't see how anyone could not like it.

Date: 2009-06-07 04:01 am (UTC)I have to agree with Jon Favreau, who tweeted after seeing the movie "I think it's time for PIXAR to win best picture". Seriously Oscars, let's cut this "animated movie" crap and realize that this CGI film out emoted all of your "live action" actors and had more realistic emotion than your stupid benjamin button crap.

Date: 2009-06-07 04:29 am (UTC)I honestly don't know why animated movies have to be treated differently. Sure, it's a different medium, technically, but there's still a story to be told and actors have to convey that story (using only their voices, at that!)...if at the end of the day the animated movie is still more captivating than the live action one, why shouldn't it get the big trophy?

I'm sitting here working on my song set at the moment. haha. 5 out of 10. I was planning on mixing it up between all of the Dolls and I thought I was doing good. I just looked and all 5 are Echo. I guess at this point I should either shun all echo caps or embrace the fact that they are going to all be Echo. I really want to shoot for the former. I wanted at least some Mellie and Claire in there.
