Thoughts I jotted down while watching DWS6E05:The Rebel Flesh

As soon as I saw the people in their little contraptions for controlling the 'gangers, I thought of Dollhouse. I reminded me of the chair used to wipe the actives. Why do people think messing with brains is a good idea? It always goes haywire, the "other" created in these experiments always wants to escape!

The whole issue of who was really who, what qualified as being alive vs being a clone, and if either was worthy to live made me think of Never Let Me Go (which Joss sites as being an inspiration for Dollhouse).

Then, of course, I thought of the other two parter from last season where humanity was tested (and failed) when the lizard people were awoken from underground. Once again, The Doctor trying to convince the humans to take other specices seriously and to work towards peace rather than war. And, once again, pretty much failng at that so far, but mostly because the damn humans won't behave.

So - since it was about this time we saw the Dalek episode in Series 5 and met the first robot who looked like a man, I find it interesting that we're meeting this magical flesh stuff now...and, of course, our little Rebel!Flesh Doctor at the end there has me already wondering WHO did we see die in the first episode? Because - really - could RFD regenerate? He's not really a time lord, that seems like something you'd have to be an actual time lord for...but perhaps he might release that same puff of soul...plus, The Doctor made it clear that he has encountered this stuff before, further along the timeline, where it is more advanced in its abilities.

Jennifer: "I thought I was going to die!"
Rory: Welcome to my world.

Rory was made of awesome in this episode. A lot of people have been discussing the fact that Rory has been mentioning he is a nurse a lot in these last few episode. And tonight I realized something - though he is a nurse, he has more in common with The Doctor than anyone else we have met so far. Rory shares that same compassion for other living things, the desire to help - perhaps this is why The Doctor had no problem with taking him on board. And why Amy was attracted to him in the first place.

Rory mentions he is a nurse every now and then, but The Doctor never lets us forget that he is The Doctor (but not that kind of doctor)!

This episode was good and creepy but sort of felt predictable to me. As soon as The Doctor stuck his hand in the goo in those first few minutes, I KNEW he would be replicated. Actually, for a moment, I expected the entire episode to be from the 'gangers' points of view (but, of course, not telling the audience that). Was sort of disappointed it didn't go that route actually...

Jennifer seems a bit...unstable. No one else has done stretchy necks or elast-o arms, why does she? She is crazy!

Did anyone else yell "DAMMIT RORY!" when he ran off at the end there? Seriously boy, how can we protect you if you won't stay still!!!

Just realized I have typing this up before typing up my Doctor's Wife thoughts...I liked that episode a lot more and want to watch it again. This one is sort of "meh" for me. Feel bad for the writer -- who wants to follow Neil Gaiman's episode??? NOT ME!
