I just saw the news footage about the rioting going on in London...I just can't even begin to comprehend the terror people living in the city must feel. Even living in the country, as I see it has spread outside the city too. How can anyone justify such violence?

It's just even more disturbing for me since I was just there and it seemed fine...not that I did any big geo-political research or anything but the images I'm seeing online are just so insane. Why would you burn down your home? How can they not understand that crossing that line makes all of their other arguments invalid? Once you start hurting innocent people, either physically or by destroying their homes or places of business, why should anyone listen to you?

I just hope that people can stay safe in the city. I don't see any deaths reported, just some injuries and attacks. Lots of arrests.

It's just so sad.

whitemartyr - I hope you and your friends are safe. I know you're not in that area but it makes me worry.

And even though she's not traveling to that part of Europe, this makes me worry about bittertwee since she leaves on her trip so very soon...

It makes no sense... I will never understand how people can think that violence is the way to solve whatever problem they have/be heard/etc.

Just read this in one of Roger Ebert's essays this morning and thought I'd share it with you:

"A generation is growing up that equates violence with action, instead of with harm. Not long ago The Exorcist was re-released and some young moviegoers laughed all the way through it. A society that laughs at evil eventually laughs at good, and then loses its way."

And then later, "Maybe one difference between great horror films and all the others is that the great ones do not celebrate evil, but challenge it."
