So, remember that poll I put up at the end of the week, trying to pick between Sims 3: Pets and Batman: Arkham City?

Yeah, I went ahead and got them both. I DESERVED THEM! And, actually, I had been pretty good about spending this month so I figured it was a treat to myself.

I played Batman for a few hours on Friday and LOVED IT! It's got all the things I loved about Arkham Asylum but expanded. Asylum was very much a "go here, then go here, beat up guys, then go here, maybe find a hidden thing" kinda game...City is HUGE! And you can go ANYWHERE! Of course, this means I've already wandered off and found a side mission while Harley Quinn tortures people somewhere. Getting the hang of the fighting took awhile since I played Asylum on my PS3 (because of the Joker challenge mode) and bought City for Xbox.

Last night, I played a LOT of Sims 3 with the Pets expansion. A LOT. I managed to play a bit, put on 'Back to the Future' in the background, finished that, got up and put on Ken Burns' Prohibition (90 minutes) and watched that while I played. So...that was awhile.

And, of course, as soon as I started playing, I got distracted by my Sims actual desires and didn't even try out the new Pet additions until I'd been playing for a few hours. I swear, the most recent patches made the game run smoother? Yes, I know this is what patches are *supposed* to do, but if you've ever played Sims, you know that EA tends to patch one thing while breaking another.

Anyway, my Sims got a puppy. SO CUTE! It has a lot of the same elements as Sims 2 Pets, but they tweaked the right things. Like, you have some control over the pet! You can tell them to go do things so it's not just total chaos. I trained the puppy not to be destructive, got him a chew toy, so he's happy (though it's squeaky so my Sim was getting annoyed with the constant sound haha).

My Sim has two apple trees in his yard...I think this contributed to some wild horses appearing in the town. They ran up and ate the apples, my Sim tried to pet them. I'm wondering if he takes some horse training at the equestrian center if he can tame them...that would be pretty sweet.

So, yeah, feeling pretty good about both of these purchases! Thank you for your votes ;-)

Control over your pets sounds awesome. The horse thing sounds neat too. Do the dogs & cats look any different compared to Sims 2 Pets?

OMG the editor for the animals is JUST as crazy as the editor for your Sims. You can pick specific breeds or sit and craft their bodies/faces as much as you do your normal Sims...it's almost scary!
