Rowan Atkinson is always awesome. Thank you to ragdoll for posting about the ceremonies so I could just google the parts relevant to my interests.

(I'm avoiding the clip of Macca singing "Hey Jude" as I heard it was really painful...)

I caught the last half of the parade of nations and then the finale, which blew me away, at least, the visuals did. Now I regret not catching the whole thing, especially since my friend sent me an email afterwards going on and on about how great it was. I think Danny Boyle can do no wrong. His movies have a strong music video sensibility, so he's the right person for something like the opening ceremonies, although I'm amazed that he can transfer what he does on film to live action spectacle. The singing on Hey Jude was weak, but then when is that song not painful? It was basically an excuse to get everyone together doing the na na nas, but they could have skipped some of the verses leading up to it.
