So, I added all my Christmas music back into the iTunes mix. It's a lot of pop/rock stars covering relatively well-known tunes. I have a few childhood favorites (like my John Denver & the Muppets) floating around in there too.

I think one of the most awkward/uncomfortable "winter" songs has to be 'Baby, It's Cold Outside'. The ability to listen to that song and not be creeped out is very dependant on how the singers (especially the male singer) handles it. Too smarmy and it gets creepy...if the male singer is a lot older, it can get weird.

Right now, I think my two favorite versions are Lady Antebellum (maybe because the idea of the song really isn't that different from the Looking for a Good Time) and now the version from Holidays Rule, which is sung by Rufus Wainwright and Sharon Van Etten. (FYI the new version of the YouTube site no longer has the "old embed code" so I guess that's it for embedding to LJ). I like how Rufus and Sharon sound like they are already pretty wasted, I have this image of the two of them leaning on each other, barely able to walk. Plus, we all know that Rufus is in no way trying to get in her pants because he is Rufus. Instead, you figure neither of them can really go anywhere and they need to just pass out on the floor and sleep it off LOL.

Why the heck is Joni Mitchell's song 'River' included on EVERY SINGLE CHRISTMAS CD? It's not a Christmas song at all, she just *happens* to say the word "Christmas". /pet peeve

I <3 Bird and the Bee's cover of Carol of the Bells

OH I got my Christmas tree today yay!!!!! WOW it is so much easier to do when you have a friend with a truck! (THANK YOU [livejournal.com profile] caroljen!!!!!!). And [livejournal.com profile] maybedeadcat got to be all manly and use a hammer and a screwdriver to try to chip off the knots that the dude at the store totally missed. Took a bit of work but he finally made it fit in the tree stand, yay! <3

Alright, bedtime! TGIF!!!!!!!!

THANK GOD! I thought I was the only one creeped out by 'Baby, It's Cold Outside'. Everyone always looks at me like I'm crazy. *high fives*

The last time we had a Christmas tree was three Christmas' ago. We had an awesome fake tree that despite getting on sale during Black Friday, actually turned out gorgeous.
Our three cats didn't mess with it at all. Until the week of Christmas. As soon as we put presents under the tree our youngest cat lost her crap and climbed it continuously. >.> And though she's the youngest she is NOT the smallest. She broke all the limbs and lights. We had to throw the dang thing out. :(

Lol. Sorry for the long rambling... I miss a Christmas tree story.

I have the Michael Buble Christmas albums on my phone <3 He's a must have if you don't have him on itunes. Sounds like Frank Sinatra but he's soooo cute <3 I had when they include songs on cds that have nothing to do with Christmas but they just say 'holidays' or 'Christmas' once ;; Wtf?

I refer to him as Mr Bubbles, but yes, I've got at least one Michael Buble in the mix there. :) I think I have 200+ songs haha. Perk of working at the library and borrowing CDs, you can create some great mixes.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE! My friends and I were discussing it then we went to the coffee shop across from the library and it was playing there and the barista girl was complaining about it too! **high fives**

Luckily, my cats don't seem to care about the tree beyond trying to drink the water. Presents are another issue and they have been known to try to unwrap them if I leave them out too long. Starbuck likes to eat string and ribbon so I have to watch that. I think last year I wrapped them all but didn't add any decorations until Christmas Eve.

Oh god... I don't even wanna think about my cats and tinsel. I had a dog when I was a kid that always used to get into the tinsel at Christmas. Always lead to interesting walks later. Hehe

If the wrong person/people are singing 'Baby It's Cold outside" I get the creeper vibe too. I kind of wonder what the hell they were thinking when they wrote some of those lyrics! But other than that I lovelovelove Christmas music. I'll totally listen to it in the summer, just because.

I've had a fake tree for several years now. It's slowly grown on me. And I douse it with pine scenty stuff so I can *almost* trick my mind into thinking it's a real tree. :D

I didn't realize that "Baby It's Cold Outside" was weird until recently, when someone (probably post-Glee) pointed out the roofie/date rape aspects. When I think back to some of the media I've taken in over the years, a lot of it has questionable elements. I'm pretty sure lots of the Sweet Valley High stories featured molestation, bully behavior from the protagonist, and racial fetishism. Joy.

I bought a pine scented thing at Bath & Body Works a few months ago and it's been making me want my tree up LOL. I'm not really big into plants but for some reason I love my real live tree. Going to decorate it in a little bit :)

Yeah, I'm reading 'Fahrenheit 451' for the first time and I'm bothered by the portrayal of the adult women...can't figure out if I'm just hyper aware of this stuff or if it's obvious to others
