HO-MG almost done with school. Then I will stop being a sucky livejournal friend, I promise!!!

The paper I totally half-assed earlier this month and thought I was going to get a C on...I got a 99%. Which is just ridiculous. Now how am I supposed to get motivated to do this final paper??

Also, got my avatar set up on Xbox Live. She's adorable. I will take her picture at some point and share her with you. I like that you can save outfits...though I'm dredding the "microtransactions" of buying new tops/bottoms/hair/makeup that are sure to come.

okay okay back to work...see you all soon!! And keep your eyes peeled for the annual Xmas card and Mix CD post! COMING SOON!

I think when a professor ends up with two discussion threads full of students trying to understand a project that is freaking them out AND worth 25% of their grade, perhaps someone should 1) take a second look at the assignment and 2) give us another gorram week. We're supposed to be writing, or maybe editing, or doing something to a collection development policy AND writing up something about an underserved population for this policy. 7-10 pages but really half of them are written for you...maybe?

Ugh, forget it, it's not due until Sunday, I'm gonna stop stressing.
orangerful: (don't panic garden state // orangerful)
okay, I got the annotated bibliography done this evening so I survived that crisis. Next up: Fraggle Rock paper. I watched 2 episodes this morning. I think I will rewatch "30 Minute Work Week" again because that one is adorable and probably has some great quotes.

Still no word from the library about the job. At this point, I just want to know either way. Tomorrow will be a full week since the second interview...

Okay, back to speed reading the flist and then off to bed. This week is nutty.

oh crap

So, I thought my annotated bibliography project for INFO 893 was due this upcoming Friday.

It's due tomorrow.

AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

How sweet is this? We have to read a Bestseller for one of my courses, and I was stressing over what James Patterson top ten title I was going to have to suffer through. Then today our teacher says we can choose from any New York Times list, including Children's. Well, I take a look and see that Little Brother by Cory Doctorow is on there, and I am currently reading that book! I'm actually about halfway through! HUZZAH!

On top of that, I just finished writing up my resume for the Harford County job I'm applying for, and what is my first assignment for my Practicum class? A RESUME! HUZZAH INDEED!

I feel so accomplished. :D

I just want to let you guys know that my new quarter for class just started. As usual, I am freaking out over how much I have to get done over the next 10 weeks. I will survive, but it is a lot of reading and writing.

Anyhoo, I am reading my flist every night because it is sort of my habit when I get home from work, but I might not post or reply as much as usual. But I am lurking. Just so ya know.

(and even though I know I will be eliminated immediately due to lack of time, I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] bsg_lims *shakes first at [livejournal.com profile] spitefairy* Come and join the party, if you wish).

I just spent 2+ hours fiddling with my poor old icon website, orangerful.com. In my INFO 652 course I learned how to make an image map and ever since I wanted to create one for my homepage. And now I did it! With only a couple of mistakes the first go through. I am so very proud. Beyond the home page and the icon page, I haven't made any other changes. I really need to go through and clean out old icons that are not so good, condense some of the other pages into a single page and perhaps expand some others.

On top of that, one of my co-workers asked me about a call number from an Inter-Library Loaned book and I was able to explain that it was a Library of Congress Classification number and the basic way that it was created. I felt so smert.

The kittehs go in tomorrow for their first vet appointment. I'm preparing for the shunning when we get home. I'm hoping it won't be too traumatic. The appointment is at 9am and then I work from 1-9, so hopefully when I get home from work I will be forgiven.

I just realized I am four issues behind on the new Buffy comic and at least two on Angel. I actually have the comics, they just arrived when I was in the middle of my school panic mode. tsk tsk, I am a bad fangirl!

okay, I'm going to go see if there are any cookies left in the cupboard...snack attack!
orangerful: (pigeon w books // orangerful)
WOO-HOO! I got into the Practicum course for next quarter so I can get credit for going to work (I'm sure I'll have to write a paper or something but still...woohoo!)

I also registered for Resources for Children and a course on Public Libraries.

This whole MLS thing is going much faster than I expected!

HUZZAH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just submitted my final exam for INFO 503 and INFO 652! I AM DONE! done done done done done!

Well, for 2 weeks at least.

ooooooh that feels good. *dances*

I rewarded myself by installing Sims 2: Freetime and playing for 5 hours. So fun. My Sims are having a grand time. Except for the one that is flunking out of school. Not my fault a bug in the game made it impossible for me to pick up his homework. Ah well, you need Sim McDonald's employees, right?

Tomorrow, I'm going to a meeting with [livejournal.com profile] heiland_coo where we get to talk about how poorly put together the LATI program is and how we would make it better and why they should bow before our awesome Library Associate powers! Then after that I have a Staff Development Committee meeting at Headquarters where we will talk about how I've done nothing I was supposed to do because this past month has been beyond insane with a combo of weird crap at work and lots of homework.

Then after that its follow up with the doctor time. Yuck.

But at least I don't have to do HOMEWORK when I get home. :D

it lives!

I am still here everyone! I know I've been pretty quiet this month. I'm trying to keep up with school work. I read my f-list every day though, so even if I don't comment, know I am reading about your exploits and such!

[livejournal.com profile] jimithingy and I celebrated the anniversary of our first official meeting/date on Saturday. According to our records, that means we've been together now for 7 years! Madness! He bought me some Tinkerbell earrings! Then we went out for sushi and came home and played Rock Band. Then we finished the day off with some Alton Brown-style hot wings and an episode of Battlestar Galactica (We're up to Epiphanies, and I've fallen in love with the show all over again).

Today, we saw 'Cloverfield' with Perri, Alan, Amy and Joe. I know I'm a little late to the party but DAMN what a MOVIE! I don't know if I could ever watch it again, it was so intense, but it was very well done. I am already leary of the "sequel" talk. I might post more thoughts on that at a later date.

I am now starting Week 5 of this quarter which means I'm halfway done. Yipes! Luckily, no real midterms, but the one discussion question for Systems Analysis looks ugly. I really hate that course and cannot wait for it to GO AWAY! And SCORE! they are offering the Young Adult Services course next quarter! I am SO signing up for that.

I fried my brain. I just did a TON of work for my INFO 511 class. I totally forgot I was supposed to be answering questions on IPL's online reference site. So I did my first practice question. I'm supposed to respond with 3 sources, but the first source I found was awesome and all other online sources paled by comparison. I have a feeling they will ask me to do another one. Oh well.

I've realized it takes a day for the late night parties to catch up with me. I was feeling pretty good last night. Now I'm exhausted! At least I don't have to be at work until 12:30 tomorrow.

Also, my computer is humming a bit louder than usual. Fan will probably die soon. With my luck, it will wait until Friday night while I'm working on an assignment and go *pffffft*. Just cuz.

I think I'm gonna make some hot choco in the ol' Flavia machine, watch some BSG and then pass out.

I'm so proud of myself - I actually have a bit of self restraint! Not a whole lot, mind you, but enough to come home, watch the hour and a half video of a lecture that was posted in the "readings" for 511, then reading the powerpoint lecturs for 503 AND responding to the discussion board for the above classes. Now all I have to for the rest of the week is the lecture/activity for 652 (web design) and respond to some posts on the discussion board. (okay, there was a 30 minute dinner break and an hour WoW break in there).

And sitting right in front of me? The brand new Buffy comic! At least when I read it now, I will feel like I've earned it! The new Radiohead CD arrived today too! Probably best to not listen to that while studying either.

I really have to get myself back into school mode. This week just caught me off guard. My posting might be a bit random for awhile.

In other non-me related news - the Dark Crystal sequel is going to be a direct-to-dvd release. Hmmm, worrisome. Thought they could surprise us!
orangerful: (mario oh yeah! // orangerful)
Lost: The Video Game -- wow, that sounds like the most frustrating game ever!

I just watched X-Play's Best of 2007 episode and now I want to play all the games! I really should get back to Mass Effect before I forgot what I'm supposed to do! That's the only problem with RPGs, you can't walk away for a month or two and jump back in without being really confused! I just got to the first big city, so I'm sort of wandering and gathering random quests and such. I signed an autograph for some guy and I have a feeling that will come back to bite me later in the game. I played a LOT of Super Mario Galaxy on Friday so maybe I'll play Mass Effect today.

I just sent back Metroid so I should be getting a new game from Gamefly next week too.

Classes start tomorrow so that will probably nip by gaming time in the butt! Though I am excited about the web site designing course. Maybe I'll learn CSS! The textbook for Systems Design and Analysis is huge and scary. And it's the same professor as my Statistics class which makes me think that *shudder* there may be some sort of computation involved. YUCK! I hope not.
orangerful: (overwhelmed // orangerful)
*sigh* I should totally be working on my final projects for class right now.

but I'm not.

Just not feeling it at the moment. It was a long day at work, the boiler shut off again so we were freezing most of the morning. Then a very crazy afternoon, just very busy on top of trying to find the boiler repair people.

So, I'm going to work on my grant proposal and bibliography tomorrow. I promise.

[livejournal.com profile] jimithingy has a cold so he's already in bed, I've turned off a lot of the lights so they don't wake him up, so it feels much later than it is. I watched 'pushing daisies' and had a whopper w/ cheese for dinner. My tummy is harassing my about it now. A whopper is just too much food. :\ I should have gotten a jr but I was so hungry at the time, blinded my the smells of grease and fat. Ah well.

I think I'm going to play some Sims. Had one of my college graduates get married and have a kid on Wednesday (okay, first I accidentally killed his preggers wife, so I had to quit without saving so should could be not dead...second time's a charm!) so time to work on his class mates.

WOO-HOO one more week of classes and I've survived my first semester of grad school and get a month off! YAY!

OMG one more week of classes, all my shiznite is DUE in a WEEK! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Turns out I should not do stats homework at 10:30 at night! Because my reading comprehension drops way down. I missed the whole sentence about how to make SPSS spit out percentages and gammas so a whole 3 charts of information were missing. So I'm less confused and more done with my homework now.

AND I managed to get rid of Sunday at the library, so I will be having a bonus Thanksgiving with [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy's family. Should be delicious.

Tomorrow: Edward II at the fancy new theatre. Last week, we saw 'Tamburlaine', which was 3 HOURS! I wouldn't have minded so much but it was an evening performance so I was sort of sleepy haha. Avery Brooks was very good, actually everyone was very good, but I'm not really a bit Histories person. 'Tamburlaine' never gets his comeuppance. He's a little bastard, who kills and betrays lots of people to become an even bigger jerkwad, ruling the world, and is finally challenged, which leads him to think that stabbing his own son is a good idea and before anyone can really get revenge, he has a heart attack and dies. Hm. 'Edward II' sounds a lot more nuanced and complex. (Reading the Wikipedia entry...I wonder if it is possible to find the production that Ian McKellan starred in....)

The new theatre is very snazzy. It's right across the street from the Verizon Center (was had to walk through a crowd of Springsteen fans to get there last week, who knows what will be going down on a Saturday afternoon). [livejournal.com profile] destertale asked me what was going to happen to the Lansburgh Theatre and as far as I know, they are going to keep it open! Right now they have 'Taming of the Shrew' extended through Nov 25th, something they couldn't do until now. And a couple more plays are scheduled there for the season too. They are also using the new theater to host all kinds of different events.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

I read the lecture for Stats, I really did. But I just went to do the homework and I"m like "wha????" It doesn't make any sense to me at all. It feels like it's an assignment from another lecture. I'm so confused. I'm hoping it is just because it's 11:30pm so my brain is shutting down. But there were all these words that made no sense to me, and I opened up the lecture again and I still felt very lost. UGH! I have come to the conclusion that I hate stats. I like my math straight-up, like algebra. No theories, no magic numbers (except for Pi), just tell me what to do and I'll do it. All this "Yates Correction" this and "Chi Square" that, I just do not get it at all.

In other news: "There Is a Bird on Your Head" may be the cutest book of all time. I am in love with Mo Willems' artwork and his sense of humor. I read this book out loud to one of my Pages today, and she about fell over laughing so hard!

"I am Invited to a Party" is also adorable. My Friend is Sad is probably my very favorite of the bunch... I think I'm just going to buy all the Mo Willems' books. They are like single servings of pure happiness.

Actually, I'm feeling less stressed just looking at the cover art...heehee, poor Gerald, he's so upset about those birds!

So, last week, I was freaking out because I couldn't figure out what courses to take next semester.

Today, I have too many! I was able to get the pre-req waived for two higher up courses, and now they just added the one course I really needed to take!

So, now (or, at least, before the semester starts) I must choose what to take. I'm going to take INFO 503 and INFO 511 - those are pre-reqs for every single course in the program, so I want to just get them out of the way! (Plus, I'm finishing up INFO 510 right now, which has the first part of a project that will be completed in INFO 511). But I have to choose one more course for this semester -- Cataloging and Classification OR Internet Info Resource Design.

I emailed the professor about the Internet course, since it said that a pre-req was "INFO 511 or equivalent HTML knowledge". I told him I knew most of the basic stuff, like creating links, posting images etc and he said that would already put me ahead of a lot of people so he would waive the pre-req. I think I'm leaning towards this course because Cataloging, while I'm interested, is going to be a lot of work...I can feel it.

Ah well, I have until January to figure it all out, right?

WOOHOO!!!!

I just got an email from the one professor I have that does not post his grades to the Blackboard site - he said I have an A! I was really worried because I had to type up a paper on library associations and I wasn't sure if it was good enough or not, but apparently it was! HUZZAH!

Now I shall reward myself by renewing my membership to the Buffy Collector's Club and getting in on the subscription to the new Angel comic.
