Book meme snagged from [livejournal.com profile] domluver:

List ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you.

1. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
2. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
3. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
4. Shopgirl by Steve Martin
5. The Stranger by Albert Camus
6. Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
7. Y The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan
8. Everybody Sees the Ants by A.S. King
9. The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle
10. Blankets by Craig Thompson

OH and if you are a fan of READING and WRITING etc. you should friend my buddy [livejournal.com profile] andy_wolverton -- he is also a librarian but unlike me he is disgustingly talented and has had short stories published, has mad music skills and apparently can also draw really well. Sheesh. Anyway, he needs more LJ Friends :-)

I tried to read Jurassic Park when I was younger but couldn't get through it. I really need to try to read it again. I think I was just disappointed it wasn't like the movie.

JP is one of the books I credit with getting me into reading for fun. I was obsessing over the movie because I was a HUGE Spielberg fan as a kid so my Mom told me if I read the book I could see the movie in the theater. Then my Uncle got me the book on cassette (SO OLD) and I listened to it non-stop that summer. Pretty sure I have huge chunks of that book memorized.

You're not the first to recommend "uglies". I'll add it to my list. It is a long list so it will be a while before I get to it.

I LIKE THIS MEME!! :)

Uglies is great, but I still haven't finished the series yet. The Book Thief, on the other hand, got me very close to crying in public. I've learned since to only bring books out and about with me if they're the fluffy, brain-candy kind.

WHAT, you haven't finished UGLIES? how did you stop? I tore through those books, they were one of my "YA can be awesome" books that made me really read in that area. And OMG I cried SO HARD at the end of Book Thief, I had never had the reaction to a book before, I was just bawling. SO GOOD. I want to reread it but at the same time...I don't. I put the DVD on hold but I'm sorta scared to watch it, I don't want the movie to ruin the book for me.

I dunno what it is. I read the first one, loved it, and went to something else. Then read the second one, loved it, and went to something else. Sometimes when I know there's only one book left in a series, I will deliberately take ages reading it just to make it last. It's hard to explain.

It's the last cookie in the cookie jar! I totally understand. My Mom would always get mad at me because I would leave one cookie in the box or in the jar until it was stale and gross because I didn't want to eat it until I KNEW there was another one around. I didn't watch the last episode of Sherlock Series 2 until Series 3 had a release date LOL. And it took me a LONG time before I watched the Wonderfalls finale because I knew that would be the end. So I hear ya.

If it helps though...he wrote a fourth "Companion" book that is in the same universe but with different characters.

I haven't *quite* watched all of Heath Ledger's movies yet, for the same reason. I have, like, two left.
