So,
I'm playing on Normal difficulty because I want a little bit of a challenge but I also don't want to get destroyed. :)
Basic plot line: You are Corvo, the Empress' most trusted guardian. After being sent away to neighboring countries to see if they are suffering from the Rat Plague that is ravaging our land, he returns to deliver the news that no one is willing to help them.
On my way to visit the Empress, I did play a quick game of hide and seek with Emily, the Empress' daughter. I get the vibe that Corvo is the father figure to her and the Empress and him were attracted to each other, though they never acted upon it. We will see if more story is revealed on that later.
Anyway, after Corvo plays with Emily, he follows her up to speak with her mother. Within moments of delivering the news, there is an ambush and the Empress is slaughtered by mysterious men who can blink in and out of space. The grab Emily and vanish, just in time for the guards to find Corvo over the dead body of the Empress. And the head of the guard frames Corvo for the murder right there.
The game really starts with Corvo locked in his cell. A guard provides him with a "special meal" and he finds a note and a key to his cell. I decided that Corvo was going to try his best not to kill the guards around the prison. They don't know they work for such a corrupt man, the story printed in the papers was very convincing (plus, the more people you kill, the worse the Rat Plague will become and apparently the ending changes). I managed to stealth my way through the entire prison and not kill anyone. But then I had to sneak under the city and things got a little crazy. According to the stats at the end of the level, I killed six people. Oops.
I was brought to the safe house and met the rebels who are fighting to bring down the man who took over after the Empress was murdered. I talked to Piero and he upgraded my mask for me. Then I went to sleep and had a strange dream where I gained the ability to Blink across distances. He also provided me with a creepy heart that helps me find "bone charms". It's hard to tell whose side he is on and considering the people who killed the Empress also had the Blink powers, I am suspicious to say the least. I used the rune I found in this zone to add "Dark Vision" to my skills so now I can see enemies through walls and also I can tell which way they are facing so that should help me be stealthy.
The animation in the game reminds me of Bioshock Infinite and Fable. The bodies of the characters have that slightly deformed look of Fable, where their hands and heads are just a little bit...off. They are not meant to look realistic, they have that cartoonish vibe about them.

Date: 2014-02-12 04:55 am (UTC)& it's hard killing people cause I feel the same way you do... I'm sure these people I'm murdering all willy nilly don't realize how evil the people they work for are, and they're certainly not evil themselves, just doing their jobs, but, you know.
& ugh, there are rats everywhere and I can't tell if there are usually this many rats or if it's already getting bad because I'm legit killing everyone.
I get the vibe that Corvo is the father figure to her and the Empress and him were attracted to each other, though they never acted upon it.
It's funny you should mention Infinite, cause when I was playing that I kept thinking, "This reminds me so much of Dishonored!" lol
