I guess Disney isn't ready to admit that this is a musical? Trying not to freak out about that. I guess there are some other changes, but part of me wonders if they are just going to do the first half of the musical and stop (i.e. end while it's all happy and, well, DISNEY LOL).

I will be judging this SO HARD as Into the Woods is one of my all time favorite musicals.

I have to admit that I'm pretty excited for this but I would have loved to have seen some evidence of it being an actual musical.

Yeah, this is just the teaser so I'm assuming later trailers will include a bit of the music...though it's probably hard to cut a trailer for a musical without making it sound like a commercial for a Greatest Hits CD LOL. I'm just...I don't think there is any way Streep can be as amazing as Bernadette Peter. :-\

Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine? HEEEEELL FREAKING YES.

Also Johnny Depp, but mostly Anna and Chris.

I've never seen any version of Into the Woods and don't really know what it's about (other than what I see based on the trailer) but this looks really good.

I was going to direct you to where to watch it but it appears Netflix lost the rights ***glares at Disney who must be behind this***

It's a Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim. Telling the fairy tales as grim as they really were and as though all the characters lived in the same town together. It's got some beautiful songs...Funny thing is, the Baker and his Wife are really the central characters everything revolves around and they are barely featured in the trailer.

Oooh, okay. It sounds kind of interesting and I feel like it kind of reminds me of that movie The Brothers Grimm (which I only have vague memories of because I only saw it the one time I watched it) based on what you've said. And :| well of COURSE they'd go and change something like that. Very typical of movie adaptations like this. I bet they did it that way on purpose for the trailer, in order to show Anna, Johnny and Chris pine more than anyone else.

James Cordon!

And if it's by the director of Chicago, chances are it'll be a musical.

Oh, yes, it is the musical. I'm just surprised they didn't put even a hint of the music into the trailer. But I guess it is just a teaser. Still...I want to hear everyone sing so I may judge them!!!

So, I get this is adapted from a musical, but I don't know it, so I'm just wondering how is this any different from OUAT? It's a rhetorical question, don't answer that. I like fairytales, but it just feels like Hollywood is doing the same thing all the time these days, with all the remakes, reboots, sequels and prequels.

LOL but I **want** to answer your question. :) This isn't a modern retelling, it's still set in the fairy-tale 'verse. But, yeah, Fairy Tales are so hot right now, and not just on TV. It seems to have gone from vampires to mermaids to greek mythology which then morphed into European Fairy tales. We have a TON of children's and young adult fiction that is mining from there. I wonder what it means...I know zombies reflect a bad economy and a feeling of helplessness...what does it mean when we are all embracing the dark side of fairy tales? Is that our optimism fighting with our realism??? SOMEWHERE out there, a undergrad is writing their thesis...
