book meme answers
Aug. 8th, 2014 04:00 pmDon't you like how I posted a meme then disappeared completely? LOL. The girl parts have not been behaving this week and then I had the weirdest allergy attack yesterday that put my out of commission for the whole day.
Anyhoo, here are the responses to the book meme:

C. Currently Reading -- The Girl with All the Gifts by M. R. Carey, The Fifth Beatle: The Brian Epstein Story by Vivek Tiwary, Carsick by John Waters (audiobook)
D. Drink of Choice While Reading -- Hm, this depends on the time of year. Summer time would be something cool and refreshing, like lemonade. Winter, I'd opt for a hot cocoa or chai.
R. Reading Regret -- Twilight? Though I only got about 2/3 of the way through book 1 before I realized it was not what I thought it was. Still, could have been reading something better!
H. Hidden Gem Book -- Seabiscuit by Lauren Hillenbrand is one of the best books. She does a great job of making the history so read-able and I learned a lot about Depression Era America beyond what you find in text books. I learned about real people and real life.
I. Important Moments of Your Reading Life -- Probably when my Mom made a joke about 42 being the answer and I found out that the book on the shelf downstairs with the title The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was not about astronomy.
A. Author You’ve Read The Most Books From -- Hm, I'm guessing it's either Michael Crichton or Douglas Adams. Unless we go into the realm of comic books, then it would be Brian K Vaughan.
B. Best Sequel Ever -- UnSouled by Neal Shustermen, the sequel to Unwind. I was very skeptical about there being more to this series but the sequel blew me away and created a whole new level to the story.
G. Glad You Gave This Book A Chance -- on a whim at my grandparent's house, I picked up Devil in the White City and I was sucked in immediately and could not put it down until I finished it.
S. Series You Started and Need to Finish -- LOL so many, probably too many to list. I'd really like to read the rest of The Secret Series by Pseudonomys Bosch.
W. Worst Bookish Habit -- reading too many books at once and not reading books that I own because they don't have a due date. I have actually ADDED books to the library's collection just so I can check them out and be forced to read them in 3 weeks...it's sad but true.
M. Major Book Hangover Because Of -- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak was so good and so emotional, I couldn't read anything else for at least a month after. Every book I picked up was compared to that novel and it was always lacking.
Z. ZZZ-Snatcher (last book that kept you up WAY late) -- Saga, Volume 3 by Brian K Vaughan, the latest collection of the comic book series. I started it far too late and just had to finish it. So good.
E. E-Reader or Physical Books -- I don't read fast enough for an eReader to appeal to me, I'm fine with physical books. I can see the appeal but I also know that if you put electronics in my hand, I'm going to end up playing with them, not reading.
U. Unapologetic Fangirl For -- Douglas Adams books. And right now I tend to get very excited when a kid checks out any of the Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales books.
Y. Your Latest Book Purchase -- Um...hm...I don't buy books that often so it's hard to remember. I do plan on picking up the Joss Whedon biography at some point. My Mom got me the book about Dollhouse a few weeks ago. I think the last book I bought with my own money might have been Smile by Raina Telgemeier because she was at Books for the Beast and I NEEDED her autograph.
O. One Book That You Have Read Multiple Times -- Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
P. Preferred Place to Read -- Tend to read in bed, when my brain is the quietest and the day is winding down. Though I also like to read on my lunch break at work. (you see, I need to be away from any electronics because those distract me too much, I'm not a slow reader, I'm a distracted reader).
J. Just Finished -- not counting the picture book I read last night on the desk, the last book I finished was How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell, read by David Tennant. The last book I actually read with my eyeballs would be the Candy Capers Adventure Time comic book.

Date: 2014-08-09 08:18 am (UTC)I love book memes! :)
I'm kinda fascinated by what books people own and read so I really enjoyed reading your answers.
I recently added The Girl with All the Gifts to my Amazon wishlist, the concept sounds very intriguing. I'm also interested in Devil in the White City as it seems to pop up on quite a few of my book rec lists.
Oh god, The Book Thief destroyed me. I was a wreck after I first read it and would suddenly start thinking about it during the days after I'd finished it and start crying! I actually re-read it recently and even though I knew the outcome I still ended up a blubbering mess.
And I totally agree with you in regards to your answers to R, E and P. :)

Date: 2014-08-10 03:51 am (UTC)I love and adore Michael Crichton. Douglas Adams and Michael Crichton are the two authors I credit with getting me back into reading after school killed my interest. Crichton has his flaws (his character descriptions usually are just gender, age, and occupation LOL) but I have read Jurassic Park SO many times. And I really liked 'Timeline' even though it is pretty much just Jurassic Park backwards...but I love his mix of real science and science fiction. I always felt like I learned something.

Date: 2014-08-12 03:44 am (UTC)I didn't know there was a book about Dollhouse; I'll have to see if I'm able to find a copy of it.
