Everyone have a good laugh at my expense. I know I did. HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW???

Actually, I find that most shows I am skeptical about are the shows I end up loving. Maybe because I have such low expectations and then they blow them so far out of the water.

Buffy - when it started airing I thought it was just some dumb teen show, now I worship it.
Adventure Time - weird stoner show...okay it is that AND something so amazing.
Gilmore Girls - thought it was just a dumb girl show but it is one of the smartest things ever.
Community - guy from The Soup's show? why would I watch it, now one of the funniest shows ever.
Parks & Rec - awful office rip off (in my defense, the first season wasn't that great) now I know it is one of the best comedies ever made.
Hannibal - thought it would be a Dexter rip off. I didn't know about Fuller then!

Lots of people think that about Buffy. They usually learn better. :D

Usually, as long as they have helpful friends who make them watch LOL. My friend forced me to watch while visiting her and I just was blown away by the show. And now I make all my friends watch hahahahaha

I have forced several friends down that route. My children roll their eyes at me, but there is something very special about that show.

One of my friends very recently decided to watch it for the first time and she loved it and it made me happy that she didn't say "oh it's so outdated now". There's just nothing else like it out there. I'm hoping I get convince Sylvia to watch it with me at some point. She'll be in high school in a couple years, perfect time to watch. :)

It didn't help that Buffy was basically marketed as another shallow teen show, IIRC. All my magazines talked about were the teenage things like Buffy's vampire boyfriends and stuff. I had no idea Buffy even left high school at some point; I assumed it was all in comic book time, so to speak. Plus, the name "Buffy." ;) I don't really think it was my thing at the time anyway, but I regret writing it off as stupid when it's such a smart, deep show. Then again, I feel like a few teen shows back then seemed shallower on paper than they really were.

I kind of thought Parks and Rec was just going to be people doing stuff in the park all the time or something. I remember a bunch of friends were into it - naturally now that I am, they're not. :P But I wish they'd mentioned how feminist the show is and the great female characters and relationships and all of that.

I had seen the movie and was underwhelmed so the idea of a tv show made no sense to me. Plus I was a weird teen who spent a lot of time rebelling against teen culture instead of my parents so anything I thought was for teens I didn't want to be associate with LOL. yeah.

parks and rec is SO amazing. I LOVE how much they get away with, poking fun at all of the issues we have. I'm sort of thrilled that Tim's daughter is watching it and at 12 years old is thinking of Leslie as a role model. I wish there had been more Leslie Knope characters on TV. I remember watching Murphy Brown with my mom, probably the closest thing.

Were you me?! We would've gotten along REALLY well. :P

Leslie is a great role model! Good for her!

Yeah, the Silence of the Lambs movies seem pretty self contained, the guy kills some people and then gets caught, how do you make a bunch of episodes out of that?

Same with Bates Motel (though I haven't seen that).

It all depends on who the writers are and WOW, watching the extras on the DVDs I am blown away by the amount of vision Fuller has for his shows. (now if networks would just stop cancelling them after two seasons!!! I hope Hannibal gets to have it's full 6 season run that I know Fuller already has mapped out)

I thought the same thing about Buffy! I was a fan of the original movie and I thought the show would be ridiculous. I was so wrong!!!
