Whoa, I kind of disappeared for a bit there, didn't I? The weather has been so nice, though a touch on the warm side for May, but we have been taking full advantage of it with lots of walks and run and such. Which means I am exhausted after dinner and tend to just veg until I drag my body to the bedroom. So I am behind on LJ for the past few days.

I did see Avengers which was AWESOME! I had to go by myself because my friend's dad had a pinched nerve so he had to back out and Tim had to work. But I was like "SCREW THIS I WANT TO SEE IT NOW!" and went alone. Except I wasn't alone because the theater was packed. (also, thank goodness I did see it because my tumblr dash was FULL OF SPOILERS when I got home...wtf tumblr). I will post more coherent thoughts later.

I just caught up on Orphan Black and I have to say I am feeling...underwhelmed. I'm just not pulled in to all the stories. Maybe there is just too much going on. I dunno, I'm just not excited for new episodes like I am for my other shows.

We have watched a LOT of iZombie which I am really enjoying, though switching between that and Daredevil really highlights the differences and issues with network tv vs streaming shows. iZombie has to waste a lot of time each episode re-explaining the main plot of the series, even though it is right there in the opening, they feel compelled to mention her backstory a lot. Where as if you start an episode of Daredevil it's like BAM! Maybe if CW was less stingy with the streaming and left shows up on Hulu longer they wouldn't have to worry about people being unable to catch up. The show is still fun but it means it can only move so fast.

I saw an article on Digg that said binge watching was on the way out, saying the bulk series drops, ala Netflix, were bad for television and hurt the community/fandom because there was no set time to watch. I stream all my entertainment and I don't see that changing any time soon though I find I don't binge watch as much. We will watch 2 episodes in a row if we are hooked on a show but that about it. I did tear through Hannibal very quickly but I sort of regret it now because not taking time between episodes I think hurt my memory of the show overall so that it all runs together instead of existing as episodes. I'm curious to see how I feel when watching it air in June, week to week.

GTG Dinner time! (late dinner, Tim just got home and I was being nice and waiting lol)

As someone who has watched nothing but Lost for the last two weeks (four seasons down, two to go!), I really hope binge watching isn't going away. I'd much, much rather watch a series or season straight through instead of once a week. (I'm two weeks behind on GoT, and I'm half-planning on just waiting until the season is over and watching it all at once.)

On a related note, I still need to see Avengers, which is a pain because spoilers are everywhere. So tempting to read them all!

GoT is the only show I watch in almost real time because it is one of the few shows everyone I work with watches. And it is always frustrating when someone is behind because we have to be careful not to spoil them LOL. There's not many shows around like that anymore. And when they dump an entire season on Netflix in one day, it can be very intimidating because I don't have time to sit and watch 13 hours of Daredevil with all my other shows.

While I like that Netflix releases a whole season at once, I'm with you: It always takes me at least multiple days to get through a season. (And I've stopped trying to do it faster, I'd rather enjoy it, since it will be a whole year until we get more.)

Makes sense on GoT! No one talks about it much around me, so I don't have to worry about that.

I don't binge-watch either. I took 3 weeks to watch Daredevil, the same for House of Cards Season 3, and even 4 weeks for Marco Polo (even though it had fewer episodes).

It's almost like the fandoms need to get together before hand and create viewing schedules for the shows that are dumped onto Netflix. I sorta like that Community has been released one episode a week, makes me feel less stressed about watching it.

Hmm I think I prefer watching one episode a week the first time, then binge-watching on my rewatch, it does take the fannish anticipation out of it a little bit IMO when the entire series is posted on Netflix in one day

I agree. I thought it was interesting that Yahoo chose to release the new episodes of Community one a week but I actually prefer it! I don't feel rushed or intimidated by hours of TV waiting for me one day.

I'm glad that you enjoyed the Avengers :DDDD

Yeah, I have to say that I don't binge-watch a lot of shows and anime that much, and I do like to watch TV shows while they're airing at the set time. I'm watching a lot of shows on TV now, and I can easily wait a week for the next episode.

I think a week between gives you time to really think about what is going on in the show, the characters and story arcs. Especially if the show is pretty complex. I find anything I have binge watched in a few days, I tend to only remember one major plot point, all the minor stories fall away.

That's one thing I really miss in my watching of Lost now. It has SO MANY mysteries and threads and so many characters with so many different motivations, having a week between episodes would really give people time to go through it all and wonder what each thing might mean. For me, I just move on to the next episode with no thought...

I don't mind shows being released all at once because I'll still watch them at my own pace anyway. Some days I'll sit and watch something for hours; others, I'm content with one or two episodes. The only annoying part is I find that some media sources will assume everyone binged it and post spoilers really quickly. The local paper casually threw in a spoiler about one of Daredevil's characters while discussing the actress in an article only a week after the show came out. I was so pissed.

I don't mind characters expositioning occasionally, to catch everybody up later in the season, or if we haven't talked about a plot point or a character for a while, but lots of stuff, most people should be able to pick up, we are all highly competant media consumers.

But I really do like Daredevil and how much they don't over explain stuff, letting directing or sound queues do the work for us.

My Tumblr dash was full of text posts for Avengers... so they were spoilers, but they weren't obvious. Still, a lot of them were some of the funniest one-liners, and I would have been pissed if I'd seen them before I saw the movie.

I binge watch during work sometimes... and then I get caught up on series and have to watch in real time. Bill and I started Daredevil, but we haven't gotten past the first episode. (We recently got hooked on Dexter, so that's taken up a lot of our time.)
