Didn't starve...died in a flash fire

Okay, Don't Starve is being MEAN TO ME!

First, the game started in a rainy spring period, so Wilson was immediately soaked because I didn't have time to gather flowers for a parasol or make a hat.

Second, I couldn't find the damn beefalo and teaandfailure has assured me that making a home base next to the herd is the best way to survive. I did finally find them around day 4.

Third, after building my camp there was a thunderstorm and my science machine caught on fire!!! Poor little Wilson had barely begun to regain his sanity.

And then, when things seemed to be going well - I had a little farm, I saw bees get into a fight with a Knight, giving me a chance to collect some random items they dropped, and my sanity was back to the full bar...

...lightning struck again but this time it lit the entire plains on fire and Wilson DIED!!!!!!!!

7 days.

It's hard to be mad at a game that is totally random but boy did I feel terrorized tonight.

It is! It's very open and sandboxy but still has this very vague story so it keeps my interest more than, say, Minecraft, which I cannot wrap my head around at all.

If it helps, I have yet to survive the summer in a cycle that starts in spring. A fall cycle is MUCH MUCH EASIER.

Day 4 beefalo finding is actually pretty good! It gives a nice head start if you find them earlier, but I've actually sometimes found them as late as like, day 6, when I was really starting to sweat bullets about hounds.

Sometimes, Don't Starve is just a HUGE ASSHOLE.

It really can be!!!! And OMG Don't Starve Together will be released to the rest of us next week!!!! I can't wait to make my friends suffer (I bought three of them copies of the game when it was on sale awhile ago...have been waiting patiently...)

Yeah, I always try to find the beefalo before I make camp. Also, I agree that fall cycle is so much easier than spring. I always try to make a lighting rod immediately after building camp, so that might be something to consider so your stuff is less likely to burn down.

Still trying to make it through a full winter... one of these days I'll do it.

LOL winter = death for me. I have barely made it past day 1 of winter because something bad always happens. First time I made it to winter I found out I had built my entire camp on a Walrus home...

You know, I don't think I've ever seen it rain in Don't Starve. I have, however, seen the whole world on fire! Maybe I was kind of the cause of that, because I was curious if it would work and what happened. The fire didn't kill me, but I starved or died of NIGHT MONSTERS because there was nothing left on the land.

I say this every time I see a post about the game: I love Don't Starve so much! I really wish I played it more.

okay, so you mentioned Don't Stave in a previous post, and I was like "okay, whatever". but now reading this entry, I'm going to have to do research on this game, lol!

My brother bought it for me when it first came out and I didn't really get it. I usually need stories in my games to make me want to play. But now that I've started to grasp the tiny bit of story that is there and then making up my own as I go, it's sort of like The Sims if your Sims were actively being hunted and killed by wild dogs, walruses, gaints and they went insane when it got dark.

And now the multiplayer is coming out so I cannot wait to play with a group. Not sure if that will be harder or easier...
