Perhaps they didn't know how to categorize The Martian because it wasn't a ~deep indie film that tried too hard for award season, and even though I never saw it I know that it was definitely more lighthearted than most, but it certainly wasn't a comedy. It deserved to be in the Drama category. As for Mad Max: Fury Road, they really have no excuse there. That is straight up action/scifi. I mean, the entire film is one long epic car chase, even based on the trailers for goodness sakes. Like, the fuck?
