While we were all ranting and raving about how Doctor Who will no longer be streaming, it suddenly dawned on me that maybe I should search my library's catalog and see if we have Season 9.

And we do.

So I'm on the wait list now for Part 1 and 2.

I think most public libraries have DVDs now, so if you are struggling to finish the series or suddenly have an urge to binge watch them all again, check your local system! We just opened up our catalog to do inter-library loans of DVDs as well so that other libraries in the state of Maryland can request them from us so I'm betting even your small town library might be able to ILL the item for you.

Free and legal! Suck it BBC!

Seconded!! Whenever I hear someone bemoaning being behind on some television series or other, I always say, "Check your library! We have ALL THE DVDs!!" And they're always surprised, but in a good way.

I just emailed our social media team for the system and suggested they remind everyone that streaming isn't the only way! (OOOH and we have Orphan Black Season 3! I can finally catch up!)

No longer streaming? Does that mean it won't be available on iTunes?

(Pardon my potential ignorance.)

I can't believe BBC's not renewing their contract with Netflix for Doctor Who, that's so dumb.

I've told so many people to check their libraries for DVDs, comics, and things like that and it amazes me that people don't think to check anymore!

The library is a wonderful option for renting DVDs of shows and movies. The only pain, of course, is if the waiting list is huge, particularly for things that are on high demand. It took months before we could get the first season of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries.

That is very true, I don't even know what number I am for 'The Martian' but I'm sure it is bad because I forgot to check early. If you talk to your local librarians, they can tell you how soon they start wait lists, for some movies we start them months in advance, so once you learn the pattern, you can get on the list early.

But, yeah, if you need to see it NOW then it can be a problem (especially with HBO/Amazon/BBC/PBS series which are way more expensive to purchase than most mainstream series so we can only get a small amount of copies)
