Seems kind of hilarious that a post about how to cut friends from livejournal is now featured as a popular post!

I'd say it's less dead and more that it's been around so long, people are coming and going and, in all honesty, changing. So sometimes even when people are still active, you've all changed so much you may not have anything in common with a lot of them. That can feel rather lonely. :/

Anyway, that's really what I think people mean, that their own LJs are barren and they may have very little in common with the friends they made a bajillion years ago.

I suspect that trending tool is buggy. I've gotten it on posts that had one or two comments, and just yesterday I saw someone else on my friends list get it for a post about his dog dying (with a lot fewer comments than he usually gets).

Still, it's amusing that a post about cutting your friends list got it! :D

Wow! The irony! Also, it's kind of sad that a post with 30+ comments (I assume that's about how many it had when you made this post) made LJ top 25. NO SHADE ON YOU, OBVIE! I just remember days when LJ posts had to have HUNDREDS of comments to hit the top like... 50! LJ has slowed down so much. :(
