What a week, talk about hitting the ground running! I'm sorry I haven't been commenting much, but I pretty much overbooked myself this week when it came to work and I have been exhausted in the evenings.
That and I'm addicted to Stardew Valley so I've been unwinding by playing that in the evenings before dinner.
BUT I did manage to pick up some Star Wars TFA figures, finally!

Usually, I am an opener, but I really love the box art for the Rey figure and I haven't been able to bring myself to free her from the packaging. (this is probably my Daisy Ridley girl!crush talking, you can't see it in the picture, but she's in her final movie moments outfit and looking badass. The face sculpt is actually *really good* for a kid's toy too!)
I got my copy of the TFA blu-ray on Tuesday from Amazon. I opted to just keep it easy and pre-ordered from Amazon rather than messing with Target's "exclusives". From my club members, I have heard the packaging left something to be desired and since the extras are just streaming on Disney Movies Anywhere, I'm wondering how long until they just let anyone buy them.
And then the Rogue One trailer dropped yesterday and WOW. I really hadn't been paying much attention to this movie. I was worried that Disney was going to kill my love of the franchise by cranking out movies too quickly, flooding the market like they did with the Marvel stuff. But the trailer just blew me away and now I'm really curious about it!
And now
jediknightmuse alerted me to the Build-A-Bear Wicket exclusive so I may need to find the closest store and make a trip in the next few weeks.
LOL when I started this point there was going to be some substance but...yeah, my brain is tired and everything is STAR WARS and that's pretty great. :)
(I also impulse purchased The Fugitive with Harrison Ford because when we drove through Chicago, I was talking to Tim about the scene where the cops hear the train on the phone and know he is in Chicago and that's all I know about Chicago and then it was $7 so WHY NOT!)
(oh and I also kinda sorta pre-ordered X-Men: First Class so I can have all the X-Men movies. X-Men, X2, First Class and Days of Future Past. THAT IS ALL THERE IS! Until Apocalypse comes out...which better not suck, these last two were so good)
(Clearly I should delete the Amazon app from my phone...all of these orders were made during the drive back from Wisconsin)
(I'm just abusing parenthesis now...I need to get to bed because I'm visiting a school tomorrow morning for a parent brunch to tell them about all the awesome the library has to offer)
(goodnight)

Date: 2016-04-09 04:00 am (UTC)Avocado is kind of like cheese - improves almost anything
But X-Men: Last Stand had the awesome "Charles always wanted to build bridges" scene! :P (I know this is a very minority opinion, but I actually liked Last Stand :P)

Date: 2016-04-09 07:18 pm (UTC)My only memories of Last Stand were raging with my friends afterwards at the Mexican restaurant in the mall, sipping a margarita and ranting about how they butchered the best plot line from the comics/cartoons and totally ripped off Joss Whedon's comic book. #stillbitter
But you can like it, just don't make me watch it with you! :P

Date: 2016-04-09 09:31 pm (UTC)I was probably able to enjoy The Last Stand because I'm purely a movies + 90s cartoon fan of the franchise and have never read the comics beyond a couple of random issues here and there that just happened to come my way. I definitely know what you mean about watching a movie adaptation that messes up a previous telling of the story, so can understand the post-movie rage :)

Date: 2016-04-10 01:45 am (UTC)The 90s cartoons are near and dear to my heart and they did a MUCH better job with the Dark Phoenix storyline. I'm so sad that the movie dropped the ball, there was just so much more they could have done. I remember being so excited at the end of X2 knowing that it could be next and then the disappointment of Last Stand...*sigh* At least 'Days of Future Past' made it all better, so glad Bryan Singer is back.

Date: 2016-04-09 04:03 am (UTC)I haven't bought the movie. Apparently, it doesn't have the hug? So, I'm probably going to wait and see if Disney does the Star Wars equivalent of the Marvel Phase One set when 7,8,9 are all out.
Ugh, why does Wicket have to be so expensive? I did get the Tsum Tsum which is totally cute and I want to post my Ewok collection at some point.
lol
That's not what I would recommend for Chicago viewing but *shrugs*
I still think of ER. It was an awesome show, shot on location when they could. Plus, it introduced me to so many awesome people like Alex Kingston.
The second thing I think of with Chicago is the Christian Bale Batman series.
I want Apocalypse to be awesome so I can look at Oscar Isaac and not think...I love you but your X-Men movie sucked.
So...Rogue One theories...

Date: 2016-04-09 07:30 pm (UTC)Doesn't have the hug? Which hug? I'm googling around but don't see any mention of changes to the movie.
I'm a Star Wars fan so I'm used to buying all the movies at least 2 or 3 times LOL. I'll probably end up buying them all separate as they come out, then again in a boxed set.
LOLOL YES That is my same fear with the new X-Men movie. Though I have never been mad at the actors for the films, I know to place the blame on the writers and directors LOL. Oscar will do NOTHING wrong! <3

Date: 2016-04-10 03:19 am (UTC)Now I can remember when a Star Wars set was affordable. I've purchased two three piece sets in my lifetime. One was my very first action figures that were MINE and not hand me downs or being shared with my brothers...the Max Rebo band set in 1986 or so. The other was the Force ghost set released in 1997 or so.
But dammit, that stuff is expensive now. My closest Toys'r;us has a rancor set on SALE for 99 dollars. WTF? And then there's Marvel which keeps putting my favorite figures in three pieces sets that are 50 DOLLARS! The one with Coulson is finally down to $30 but I was looking at the sculpting and it looks so bad, I don't want to pay more than 20 for the set. It's not worth it.
Don't get me started on the 60 dollar Maz lego set...I refuse to pay more than $20 on Legos.
Okay, the set isn't as bad as I feared...$24.99 at Toys'r'us so maybe $20 at Target? Then, they would just need a decent* Poe figure and I'll be set. Unfortunately, my mom will still have to wait for Maz on her own somewhere...maybe the Funko or Dorbs...I'm assuming she'll get a Dorbs because why wouldn't you make one? She demands it.
*By decent Poe figure, I mean that his face isn't covered, he has at least a passing resemblance to Oscar Isaac and his skin tone doesn't match Luke and Rey because he's not light-skinned. Most Poe toys have him with fair skin and I get so aggravated.
I'm good with not having Kylo Ren although I do want his lightsaber to complete my collection. With Darth Maul, I waited until they had a child's Halloween accessory kit for $3.97 at Toys'r'us back in the day so I have faith that Kylo Ren's lightsaber will eventually be affordable, too.
I don't mean the movie. I mean the deleted scenes. These two Tweets explain it:
As for hug, I mean when Rey and Poe finally meet when R2D2 wakes up. I also wanted Maz using the Force...which was also filmed.
Yes, I do have Star Wars in three different formats but...maybe I'm more cautious about my money or maybe it's because even the invincible DVD discs have broken on me but I'm more reluctant nowadays to buy movies and tv shows unless I know I'm going to immediately use them with the nephews or they come with something cool.

Date: 2016-04-10 02:16 pm (UTC)Oh gods, LEGOs are INSANE! Especially the big ship kits, which I always want but they are $100+ new. Though LEGOs are the one toy that does gain value usually, Star Wars sets go for insane amounts on eBay because LEGO discontinues stuff all the time.
I wonder if the scenes included/not included were Disney's decision or J.J. Abrams' decision? I know Abrams is also very careful with his releases and work. (LOL and, of course, there are plenty of deleted scenes from the original Star Wars that took 30 years to see the light of day...they only appeared on the blu-ray boxed set...so yeah, TRADITION!)
Who is Zac Cichy? Did he work on the movie?

Date: 2016-04-11 06:08 am (UTC)Also, it was at Toys'r'us that I did make my most expensive toy purchase...the $50 Lotso, totally worth it. He's adorable and if I'm lonely, I'll make him talk to me.
I do love Target but Target only has 5-10 toy aisles...Toys'r'us has a whole store...obviously, there's going to be a better selection. Of course, Target has their exclusives and so does Toys'r'us, like Toys'r'us is always better with minimates. Toys'r'us is also the ONLY place where I've seen the Oz Funko. They do have great prices from time to time. I got this SUPER ADORABLE Cabbage Patch doll where her regular price...
Actually, I just found my doll on target.com for 34.99
http://www.target.com/p/cabbage-patch-kids-quinceanera-kid/-/A-15185317#prodSlot=medium_1_4
Except the Toys'r'us sale price was....$15!
Yep, that's over half off...unfortunately, I think there was some racism at play since the white dolls on sale started at $20 but it worked in my favor, I guess.
Anyway, Target doesn't always have everything...Toys'r'us was where I saw the Rey figure first...and Toys'r'us does have sales. I love both.
He didn't work directly on the movie but he knows people who did.

Date: 2016-04-11 05:00 pm (UTC)Yeah, that is true. There isn't really a Toys R Us that is near us either so I just default to Target unless I'm on a mission for an exclusive and that is my only lead. :) Also, I have no willpower, so I'm not good at window shopping LOL!

Date: 2016-04-12 03:10 am (UTC)Everything used to be an hour away so I'm happy about:
Toys'r'us: 11.6 miles
Barnes and Noble: 14.7 miles
Target: 15.5 miles
That's all the town south of us...I can still remember when that town had a Post Office, a McDonalds and a shopping center with Winn-Dixie as its focus...that's it, lol.
Also, don't be fooled by the mileage, it still takes 30-50 minutes depending on traffic.

Date: 2016-04-10 03:31 am (UTC)I like to be prepared. My mom likes to be prepared. We were the ones going into the Phantom Menace like...okay, Darth Maul kills Qui-Gon...and still finding it totally sad but at least not as bad as if it had been a surprise. Plus, we gained a 17 year love affair with Liam Neeson...we don't always see his films but we at least give them all consideration...we even went to The Haunting!
We did Force Friday so we knew everyone's names BUT...
We didn't know that Rey would be a Jedi! YAY!
We didn't know that Han would die. BOOO!!!
Seriously, that ruined the movie for me the first time and I thought maybe I was being over-dramatic but the same thing happened to my BFF when I went with her so no...I want to be prepared. I like to know what to expect so I'm not surprised too badly. The first time I saw Days of Future Past, I was so distraught over the scary Sentinels and everyone being murdered over and over that I had to see it a second time to be able to enjoy it with the knowledge that everyone lives at the end.

Date: 2016-04-10 02:23 pm (UTC)Though I had a bad feeling about Han as soon as Ford signed on to the film. The man has wanted to bump him off for 30 years LOL. So I didn't know it was coming, but I was pretty darn sure as soon as he the main plot became clear while watching the movie.
But to each their own! Everyone enjoys movies and stories differently, I know people who read the last chapters of books before starting so they know how it all ends. As long as you don't spoil me, I don't mind. :)

Date: 2016-04-09 04:31 am (UTC)I got the edition from Target, and I'm not at all mad about the cardboard packaging. I kind of like it, because it's thinner. It's like the cardboard CD cases. I like them, cause they take up less room. Plus there's cool art on them usually, and you don't get as much cool art on the plastic ones. Plus it fits on my DVD shelf better. :P
I'm looking forward to Apocalypse! I think it'll be a good one. We just got and watched Days of Future Past not too long ago. I really liked it a lot more than I thought I was going to. I still have yet to see any of the Wolverine sequels, but I like the first one. Need to rewatch the rest of the X-Men movies. They're probably some of my favorite Marvel superheroes.
(no subject)
Date: 2016-04-09 07:36 pm (UTC)I just don't like the way the blu-ray sits in the cardboard packaging, I've had too many of that style fail on me and the disc holder breaks or I'm scared I'll break the disc getting it out LOL. IRRATIONAL FEARS! But you got the cool art, right? Didn't it come with some mini-posters???
I forgot about that second Wolverine movie. I remember the reviews said it was better than the first one, but the first one was SO AWFUL that it would have been hard to do worse. (I only understood what happened in that movie because I had the video game...the GAME made more sense than the film!)
YES! X-Men are probably my favorite superheroes. I like when my Science Fiction is really social commentary. :)

Currently, my only figure is a Rey Funko!Pop, but that will likely change today. I'm going to Comic Con. :)

Date: 2016-04-09 07:38 pm (UTC)Watch out for scalpers at Comic-Con. I am sad to say that this is probably why it was so hard to find the figures in the store, those scalpers grab them fast to resell at a marked up price (which sucks because there are actually KIDS who want those toys!) I had a guy try to sell my an Amy Pond figure for some crazy marked up price when I was at SDCC, but by the time I got home, she was on Entertainment Earth for a normal price so I got her there.

Date: 2016-04-09 05:27 pm (UTC)A+++++ Star Wars choices all around! OMG THERE'S A REY ACTION FIGURE!? I can't find anything of hers at my local Target. Must look more closely. I don't blame you for keeping them all shiny in their cases. I have a couple of action figures from the prequels (not that they're worth anything lol) still in their cases for nostalgia~ reasons.
Need to check out the Rogue One trailer! Woooooo! I WILL NOT REST UNTIL THERE IS AN OBI-WAN MOVIE THOUGH COME ON DISNEY MAKE THIS HAPPEN! :D

Date: 2016-04-09 07:41 pm (UTC)I usually open everything because I've seen Toy Story 2 and I don't want any "stinky pete" figures who are angry and bitter because I never loved them enough LOL. I very rarely sell anything (though I have been unloading some of the prequel stuff because I went a little crazy and I'm not in love with those movies like I am with the OT and TFA).
I've heard rumors of the Obi-Wan movie and I'm sure Ewan would do it in a heartbeat LOL.

Date: 2016-04-12 02:26 pm (UTC)I thought this felt a lot darker than TFA, more adult almost, so maybe they are going to try other techniques to market the movie. It does seem to be a little less in the spotlight though.
