Reading through my flist and seeing all your responses to the EU leaving vote...I am sorry and scared for the UK and the world. I feel like this and the fact that Trump has gotten so far are all parts of a bigger problem and I don't know how we are going to solve it.

I am, of course, insanely ignorant of the issue beyond what John Oliver can tell me. I know there is a lot going on beyond that video, two sides with many different kinds of people fighting over many different things, but the entire collection of issues are being boiled down to this one single vote.

I hope that there are some frustrated people out there who also have dreams of working in politics who will take this vote and learn from it and hopefully become better leaders than what we have today. Can that be the rainbow? The silver lining?

I hope so.

Anyway, massive *HUGS* to all of my friends in the UK.

*sigh* I just want all the rumors about Trump dropping out to be confirmed...though I'm worried all the articles talking about it will just egg him on. :(

Oh well, I am going to escape into a land of loud pop music and enjoy a night of Weezer/Panic at the Disco.

I like your rainbow/silver lining hope. I've been having trouble finding anything positive about this vote.

Those articles would cheer me up greatly. I'm just hoping he pulls a Ross Perot and DOES drop out. What an ass...

Gods, the Brexit is breaking my heart! The dismay and chaos are already rampant and I wish there was something I could do :(

I was having the same feeling as you this morning. I really only started reading articles about what's going on the last couple of days and the whole thing made me terribly frightened - especially in relation the vote here in November. It does seem like the world is in serious trouble and people are so divided and it's hard to see how people are going to come together.

What rumors about Trump dropping out? The only articles I've read today are about Trump's asinine reaction to Brexit and how this could actually help him win. If he dropped out that would be a shock. A completely happy-making, welcome shock - but a shock!

I have no idea what's going on in the UK. I don't watch the news. All I've seen is some friends who live over there not happy. I am going to have to read up on it when I have the time.

This decision worries me too, for Britain, the US, and the world. Especially with Trump around. Even if he doesn't win, its clear we are in the midst of a conservative backlash that I fear is only going to get worse.

The whole Brexit situation is such a bafflement. I'm sorry that everyone in the UK is dealing with it right now. And don't get me started on the global ramifications! :/

It is so hard to find hope when the world seems so scary.

I would love it so much if the rumors about Trump were true. He needs to not be a candidate.

My Trump theory is that he doesn't actually want to be president. I don't think he wants to do the work that comes with the position. But I think he also hates to lose and doesn't know how to quit. He was probably hoping to not win the Republican spot so he could bitch about it but now that he's really the only one left I just don't know what's going to happen.

Ugh.

The Brexit vote outcome is going to be so bad for so many people and I've read lots of stories about immigrants being harassed now and being told to "go home." It's so upsetting and it also makes me fear for the US because if hate won somewhere else maybe it'll win again. I really really hope not for my American friends!

We share a similar theory. I think Trump got into it for the attention, never expecting to get as far as he has. Now that he's gotten this far, how does he get out of it?

I don't think he can. At this point his supporters won't take another Republican candidate so he's probably in it until the election unless he can say something that gets him tossed out. I think he's trying to make missteps all over the place so people see that he'll be a terrible global leader. Going to Scotland and somehow thinking they wanted to leave the EU and just having people protest him everywhere there seems to be more of a show than anything else just proving that he can't represent America on a global stage.

That is just so disgusting.

Tim had NPR on while we drove to the concert and all they were talking about was Brexit and the repercussions of the vote. It seems like all the historians are shaking their heads, they know the past and they can see the future. The politicians are just worried about the bottom line and getting elected.

I feel like yet another generation has been disillusioned with the political processes and I am just hoping they have the energy to fight back.
